More status quo from what was touted to be "the most transparent administration in history". Holder is using this self-inflicted, and hyped up SNAFU in an attempt to tighten gun laws. Seems to me it wasn't fire arms sales persons that provided these guns to the Mexican catels....hmmmmm.

Big Government : Wednesday Open Thread: Checkpoint Charlie Edition

It was an amazing time in Germany. I was stationed in Germany from 1990-1993 and saw the reunification. One of the most crazy things to witness was the scores of East Germans coming into the former West Germany and the crazy things they purchased. After years of suffering crippling economic conditions, politcal oppression, restriction of personal freedoms, etc., what did they buy? Things like inflatable palm trees, and loads of McDonalds. Democracy 1, Communism 0.

Big Government : Twitter for Schmucks

There is a Greyhound bus, with snow tires on it, and a DNC bumper sticker on the back end that has a dent in the front bumper suspiciously similar to the gray boxer photo cirulating the internet. The Dems have realized that Weiner is a liability. Imagine the ethical dilemma that created to finally move them to action, but they have determined his career in congress is unsustainable and he's been identified as a wheel chock for the congressional shuttle service. That's a good thing, couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

Sausage (proper Texas sausage), brisket, venison backstrap. Then, have a few bunches of grilled asparagus for the locals. Charge $1 a plate for the meat, and $25 a plate for the vegan option. Hmmm, let me see how much vacation time I have. We may have to put together a Texas Goodwill ambassador road trip...

Big Government : Wednesday Open Thread: Big Brother Edition

A prime example is the ongoing TSA debacle. While stationed overseas, and travelling with a red, official passport and active duty military ID, I was rountinely singled out for the enhanced searches. The spectrograph sniffer, etc. Meanwhile, a guy with an RPG sticking out of his carry on bag could have strolled right through the checkpoint. I think a common sense approach to screening would be more effective. Like it or not, there is something to the notion of profiling. A person with a student visa making repeated trips between the US, Yemen, Pakistan, etc. is probably someone you want to give a bit more scrutiny to than a then active duty Soldier going back to the US from Europe.

Big Government : Weiner in the Pressure Cooker

Odds makers are now saying the prospects of a resignation are skyrocketing. I think the calls for an ethics investigation are part of a larger effort, albeit a passive-aggressive one, to pressure Weiner to resign. I agree whole-hearted with Mr. Doakes, there are more important things to worry about. Very few American people were aware that five U.S. servicemen were killed in action on the same day.

Big Government : VIDEO: Days After Being Arrested, Anti-War Group Code Pink Holds Second 'Dance Protest' at Jefferson

Okay, it is their right to dance in public if they want to. What I cannot figure out, is what these people hope to gain. I know Madea is nothing but an attention seeking loon, but a "dance-in"?, really? What never fails to amaze me is the loud mouthed, poor, oppressed collegiate liberals. Looks like a bad out take of Rick Mayall's character from The Young Ones, or the peasants in Monty Python's Holy Grail. "Help!!! I am being oppressed!!"

Big Government : Pelosi Calls for Ethics Investigation of Rep. Weiner

This is nothing more than Pelosi wading into the fray to keep her name in the press. She has been beside herself since losing the title Madame Speaker. This is just her attempt to get in the ring, but not get her hands dirty. If she were acting from a place of moral decision making, she wouldn't be calling for an ethics investigation, she'd be calling for Weiner's resignation.

Big Government : Anthony Weiner's Refusal to Resign Raises More Concerns About His Character

HIs refusal to resign is a direct statement as to the content of his character. He was caught, literally, with his pants down. He then took the expected course of action in political circles, deny everything and make counter accusations. Then Breitbart let the other shoe drop, and presto-changeo, he cops to everything, but refuses to resign. I find it laughable that Pelosi is willing to launch an ethics investigation, but isn't screaming for his head. This is Empress Nancy's way of wading into the fray, getting her botoxed mug in the press, but not getting her hands dirty. Got to love the Democratic standard of not letting a good scandal go to waste. Bottom line, Weiner needs to resign, today, yesterday. If the minority leader does not call for his resignation, the 2012 elections will make the 2010 midterms look like small victory.

I love how Pelosi and her mob are attempting to get out in front of this fiasco, at the same time, attempting to keep their hands from getting dirty. An ethics investigation? Really?
Big Government : Monday Open Thread: D-Day Edition

If you have never been to the D-Day landing beaches, a tour is highly recommended. When I was stationed in Germany, my unit provided a color guard for an anniversay observance there. Even with my own combat experiences, I cannot imagine what it was like to land on Omaha Beach that day. The heavy, reinforced German positions, and withering machine gun and artillery fire would have been terrifying. Those men did the unthinkable. The greatest generation indeed. One of my favorite passages from the British Remembrance Day ceremonies: "They shall grow not old, as we who are left grow old. Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them."

What kills me is the elephant in room type play this is getting witht he MSM. Sure, it's menitoned, but there are only some well meaning snickers at his excuses, no real journalistic curiosity. If a Republican had tried to use the lame excuses Weiner used, he or she would have already been excoriated in the press. Chris Matthews would have burned them in effigy already, yet, the whole while, the press reassures there is no media bias. This guy literally got caught with his pants down, and that's not good enough for them....

Big Government : Jefferson Memorial Disgraced by Code Pink's Madea Benjamin and Nut Job Activists

This is the M.O. of Madea Benjamin and her ilk. If the Code Pink thing becomes played out, and isn't generating enough press, go stage some idiotic "dance-in" in a national monument until you get arrested and then cry foul, despited being politely warned by the police multiple times. I had the displeasure of a chance encounter with Ms. Benjamin in D.C. last spring. I was living in Alexandria for work and went into D.C. to see the Tea Party rally on Capitol Hill in opposition to Obama health care bill being voted on in Congress. After walking down the mall heading towards the White House, I was crossing the street when Ms. Benjamin swerved at me on her pink bike as I was in a cross walk. I only wish she would have made contact. Following that chance encounter, I witnessed the true face of young liberals when a man selling protest shirts took a short break in a nearby porta-john. A group of college age people started taking the shirts, when he returned and confronted them, they loudly began to scream "You're selling these for money??" then the expected jeers of "facist/capitalist pig", etc, etc, ad nauseum

Big Government : Tolerant Left Wishes Death on Governor Scott Walker

Well, as we all know, the calls for decorum in civil discourse from the left only apply to those on the right. It is just like everything else they try to shove on the right. Liberals only want fairness doctrine enforced when it is used to silence opposing views. One of the main differences between liberals and conservatives is that liberals are unable to see anything unless viewed through a political lens. Their first, knee jerk reaction is to inject a political angle to anything. How the hypocritical left has any credibility outside a college campus or a tinfoil hat commune is beyond me.

I agree with the thought that the tone of the memorial service was more like that of a convention with all the cheering, etc. The cheering, whistling crowd seemed out of place for a memorial service. Having said that, I did think that the president's remarks were somewhat better than I expected them to be.
