This does sound like a Carl Hiaasen or Elmore Leonard book. I look forward to the movie!

/Film : Early Buzz: Lars Von Trier's Antichrist

"Anyhow, these comments are exactly what Von Trier would've wanted." Well... maybe. Sometimes these directors just have a LOT OF ANGER at themselves and the people who watch their movies. Some of these guys are intensely insecure and thus actually have contempt for the people who praise them. So they keep raising the stakes - trying to see when someone will finally fulfill their wish to call them a fraud. (I'm not saying I think Von Trier is a fraud - I'm describing the psychology of the grandiosity complex which he appears to have)

He's starting to sound like Werner Herzog. But at least Herzog's films don't make want to claw my eyeballs out so I can no longer see any human beings again - Excuse me a second. My phone is ringing. "Hello. This is Lars." Really? Wow. "Yes. I love your idea about clawing your eyeballs out. You should do that and I will film it. I am the greatest director in the world." You want me to claw my eyeballs out? "You are an idiot." I liked The Five Obstructions. "I hated that. I hate all my movies. I was very depressed for two years." I have to go. "I hope you see my new movie." Uh, okay, thanks Lars.

/Film : Privately Funded Prisons: Another Clue to Michael Moore's New Movie?

Brubaker is available on Netflix instant view if you want to see Bob Redford tackle corrupt prison officials. A fairly benign and predictable flick, though.

/Film : The Ferris Bueller Fight Club Theory

Funny how some people get worked up about something like this. I think you can add to the theory that Ben Stein's character keeps calling out Bueller's name in class and no one ever answers. Hint, hint: there is no such person. Plus I'm sure the theory could somehow be expanded to the somewhat symbolic scene in the museum with the close-ups of the paintings. I like it.

/Film : Why So Ridiculous? Does The Dark Knight Have The Most Ridiculous Film Plot of 2008?

I don't think The Joker claimed to be omniscient. He admited he thought Dent might have been Batman. It's a movie. Where a guy has a built-in motorcycle in his super tank mobile. And the motorcycle still works even after the rest of the vehicle is totalled. And guy with half his face burnt off is able to walk around and talk, instead of constantly screaming: MY G-D THE PAIN OF MY FUCKING G-D SOMEONE HELP ME HALF MY FACE IS BURNT OFF OH MY FUCKING G-D. And also let's not forget the thingy that uses cellphones to enable Batman to see anything anywhere in Gotham at any time. And were talking about The Joker's believability? I do believe The Joker may have been one of the more believable things in the movie!
