thanks for posting this. All of your points were well stated. it's unfortunate that we have to speculate as to what our leader's true motves are these days. i was beginning to feel that his choice was just a smoke screen also. unfortunately i have become more cynical and suspicious of everything he says. unfortunately his reponses are seemingly measured in the light of political expediency, not what is best for the country. Our founders stated that in order for the union to survive , it must be governed by righteous men. Unfortunately there are very few and far between , and our current president definitely does not fall into this category. it's a sad situation for the future of our country. i just hope it isn't too late. ( i don't mean to sound fatalistic, sometimes it just seems as if the challenge to correct all the "hope and change" that is coming our way is a bit overwhelming at times) tk

i too want to thank the 9-12 administrators for opening up a 2nd amendment forum. i don't know about the rest of you , but i like my guns, i like the fact that i live in a country that allows me to have my guns. i also am tired of feeling like a criminal for owning guns and exercising my rights as a law abiding citizen of the United States. Don't get me wrong, i could care less about what the media says my perception of gun ownership "should be", or what is "politically correct " at the moment. i just am frustrated by the fact that i as a "conscientious law abiding ,responsible citizen" , feel like i have to feel like a criminal for exercising my "rights" as a citizen. it frustrates me even more to see the politicians in Washington abdicating all of our rights to gun ownership because of the money and influence of the anti gun lobbyists, without consideration of the constitutionality of the laws that they are so eager to enact. i was always under the impression that they swore an oath to uphold and protect the constitution when they were sworn into office. i can not understand what part of "Shall Not Be Infringed " do they not understand. i am no lawyer, but even i can look up the definition of " shall not be infringed" and find out that it means that their will be NO impediments to gun ownership . Am i missing something here ? please let me know. if i am please explain and i won't be so frustrated. i look at the arguments for and against allowing a civil population the ability to provide for their own self defense and logic tells me that it is illogical to take away the ability of a nation to defend itself. ( gun facts pdf. NRA,Many others) i also was under the impression that this right was for the people to defend against a government gone out of control (primary reason for our separation from the British in the first place), not just self defense. Best expressed best by these words: “ We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. " i guess that make me a right wing extremist ( better start looking out for the Feds). oh well at least i know what i believe in. it IS worth standing up for. thanks again 9-12 administrators for allowing me the forum to vent. tk

Thank you for your post. i'm sure many of us feel the same way. i know i do. i believe the idea of our diversity as being our greatest strength is what has made this country survive , even through the toughest of times. i also believe it is best expressed in the motto " E Pluribus Unum ". many ideas, many experiences,many possibilities , all joined to succeed. we are all allowed to be individuals, but as a nation ,all fight for the common good. i also believe that by remaining true to our founding fathers vision of establishing and maintaining our country based on their visions and principles we will succeed. it's when we deviate and follow the selfish interests , like our current politicians and elites that we fail, and that we stray from the Divine course which i believe this great country was founded.unfortunately it seems that the only way they can feel important is to criticize and defame people whose opinion differs from theirs. talk about intolerance . i only wish they were open to true honest dialog ( without the need to feel defensive about their position) they might find out that they have more in common with us than they think. sorry to ramble, for whatever reason i was just really struck by your post thanks again for speaking your mind. because of you i was inspired to speak mine. tk

i've sat here and read the incredible ideas and comments posted here. i've pondered my own ideas about what my wish list would be,( i've actually posted 2). Now as time has pased and i have had more time to reflect i have come to the conclusion that a great change in this nation's direction is going to be achieved one step at a time. and instead of wishing for a laundry list of dreams, i've settled on one item. The truth. i would like to be told the truth by our president and representatives. i'm not a child i can handle it. i do not need to be sheltered from it. i actually would be better off as an individual and as a citizen, if i knew what was going on. (honestly , without any spin). i would definitely respect my government more and trust the individuals who represent me more if they just told me the truth. i don't care how bad it is, trust me my imagination can probably create a scenario as bad or worse than the actual truth really is. all i want is to be told the truth. it has always been my belief that this nation has been founded on the truth, without it our Judicial system is a farce. If we are being lied to , as a nation , by those that have sworn to represent us and uphold our laws then we are lost as a nation. i can only pray that this is not the case. So my last and final addition to our wish list is a request for the truth. tk

i'm just sitting here listening to the pundits and news casters regurgitate the talking points given to them by the administration re: Obama's Bowing to the Saudi King, is making me sick. Don't we have "A FINANCIAL CRISIS " that needs tending to? Is this what we find important now ? i keep hearing the "SPIN" . "he wasn't bowing , he is taller"... "he's setting a new tone for our relations...", "...it wasn't a bow ..." i'm sorry, i saw the video. i just wrote one last letter to my Representative. Dear Senator Shaheen, I was going to write you a lengthy letter to ask you to please vote no on HR 45. I was going to write to you explaining my position and provide you with a detailed line by line breakdown, with a line by line rationale as to why I thought this bill was an affront to our Constitution and would be totally ineffective in curbing the violence, especially since we already have laws that, if enforced, would have prevented the tragic event that spawned the creation of this bill. But as I was beginning to formulate my ideas, I realized that you would probably not even see my letter. You would not even know that I took the time to write you. There would be an aide that would receive my letter from your mailroom and summarily catalogue it and eventually get around to opening it and send out an obligatory machine generated form letter, telling me how much you respect my opinion, and how much you are fighting to represent me and the constituents of New Hampshire and how much you are doing to insure that my voice is heard, all the while not even knowing that I have taken the time to write you or even more important, what position you should take if you were truly representing me in this matter. Unfortunately this is why the constituents in your state and all of the states are feeling disconnected from their representatives in Washington. They do not feel like they are being heard or represented. They feel as if their representatives have given their integrity and loyalties to their political party rather than representing the people who put them in office. Unfortunately many of us feel, and as I see it we are becoming the majority, are feeling disenfranchised. It is sad how far we have come from the idea of representation that was originally intended by our founding fathers ( See Article 10 of the Constitution). It has become my belief over the years of writing you letters, that you and all of the other Senators and Representatives, no longer care to truly represent the people who voted for you and gave you the job you now hold. It seems that many of you have forgotten who your true employer is. It is “We the People”, and what your role in your position is. I believe when you took office you swore and oath to “defend protect and uphold the Constitution of the United States”. I do not remember reading in that oath where your loyalty and duty to your constituents was pre-empted by your loyalty to your political party affiliation. (they might have the money to put you in office , but it is the voting constituent that will keep you in that office). Unfortunately I believe you and many more of your colleagues have forgotten the meaning of the oath and the Constitution that you have sworn to uphold and defend. A Constitution that many of your constituents still believe in, have fought and given their lives for, and still think is the basic structure and foundation of this great Nation. In order to refresh your memory I would like to refresh your memory and familiarize you with Article 1 section 2 of the Constitution: “The House of Representatives shall be composed of members chosen every second year by the people of the several states, and the electors in each state shall have the qualifications requisite for electors of the most numerous branch of the state legislature.” And Article 1 section 3 of the Constitution: “The Senate of the United States shall be composed of two Senators from each state, chosen by the legislature there of, for six years; and each Senator shall have one vote. Unfortunately for you and fortunately for me they amended the Constitution with Amendment 17 which states: “The Senate of the United States shall be composed of two Senators from each state, elected by the people thereof, for six years; and each Senator shall have one vote. The electors in each state shall have the qualifications requisite for electors of the most numerous branch of the state legislatures. When vacancies happen in the representation of any state in the Senate, the executive authority of such state shall issue writs of election to fill such vacancies: Provided, that the legislature of any state may empower the executive thereof to make temporary appointments until the people fill the vacancies by election as the legislature may direct. This amendment shall not be so construed as to affect the election or term of any Senator chosen before it becomes valid as part of the Constitution.” Please rest assured that as a responsible ,informed , contributing and voting citizen in your state , that still holds dear the ideals and principles that this great nation were founded upon. I will be duly exercising my rights as granted to me by the Constitution and I will be enforcing my own “term limits”. I will be summarily voting you and any other incumbent out of office this election cycle and will continue to do so until, I see an elected official that is fulfilling his/her duty to my satisfaction by “defending ,protecting and upholding “ the precepts put forth in our Constitution as our founding fathers intended. I guess you can consider this your pink slip from me. Rest assured I will encourage many other like minded voters to do the same. Here's the second but most important part of my wish list. i'm tired of the corruption and the lies. i wish all of our politicians and media would stop lying to us. i wish they would realize that we are not as naive as they think we are. it's frustrating to be thought of as incapable of understanding such " lofty" subjects such as " Budgets" "Economy", and "Relationships" ( as in Foreign relationships" ) i may not live in the "beltway" or be a graduate of an Ivy League school, but i have done quite well in this economy, paying my bills , managing a mortgage , raising children , keeping employment and holding fast to a 15 year marriage. i can't say that i have been perfect in every way but at least i can rest my head on my pillow at night and sleep with a fairly clear conscience. Each day i wake up i try and treat the next person i meet the way i would like to be treated, and i do not try and deceive them or talk down to them. i would expect the same from an elected official that has been selected to represent me. i truly believe that as soon as the majority of the country accepts the fact that we are being lied to and manipulated by a corrupt group of people who have their agenda as their priority and NOT the welfare of this nation, Then and only then will we be able to heal and fix our nation until then we are destined to repeat our history. tk

Elliott taking your questions and statements on face value ( i'm not here to judge you, your beliefs or your motives) and seeing the responses you have generated. i have to say first and foremost that the questions you propose are for you to answer and for you to discover for yourself. i'm sure you are not unaware of the many divergent beliefs and ideas, and responses that you have read here. Each one opening up a window into the different ideas and beliefs that we all. have. Some of us agree with your ideas and some of us do not. That is what makes this experiment in Democracy so precious and so fragile. ( not to lessen the importance of any of the arguments or ideas posted here) i would like to ask you a question , may be two. ( totally unrelated to any of the discussion her, in the hopes that it might help you farther along the path on deciding FOR YOURSELF what you believe, and and why people posting here feel so strongly about their beliefs) Do you have a favorite sports team ??? if so who ? Why ? ( is it the way they play, is it their origin , maybe from your home town ?) ( it doesn't even have to be sports, you can apply this to anything that you are attached to in your life, music, authors, actors....) whatever the reason for your strong connection with these individuals ( or in another vein substitute BELIEF for the individual ) you feel a bond with them that makes you believe that they are inherently good ( or as in a belief , TRUE for you based upon your perception and experience of that individual or belief.) For many of us here these beliefs that we hold "Self evident and true" have come from many years of questioning , examining , and study. This time we invest in doing so is like a kiln that smelts and strengthens our beliefs and our ideas into our lives. Hence , why most of us are very passionate about what we believe and why we fervently defend our beliefs. Unfortunately NO ONE CAN PROVIDE THE ANSWERS FOR YOU . That, you need to find for yourself. First by asking yourself WHAT YOU BELIEVE, and most importantly WHY YOU BELIEVE IT. That is where we all must start. and as you can see many of us have an have found our answers or at the least have started asking ourselves the questions ( admittedly the answers that others have found may not be the right answers for you) That is for you to decide and NO ONE ELSE. You say you listen to Glen on a regular basis ,. Then i am sure this quote will be familiar to you . "Question with boldness even the existence of a god; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason, than that of blindfolded fear." Thomas Jefferson. That is the first step. One most of us have taken and have brought us to this point. That is why we are here. And i hope that is what truly brought you here. If so please stay and learn and grow , many of us here have tried to offer our thoughts and ideas, and some of us have offered you the door. ( Tolerance is a gift from the one who bestows it , it is not a right. ). The choice to stay or leave is yours, You can stay and continue to search for your answers or you can go you way with probably as many questions as you came here for. All we ask is that you respect our ideas and beliefs, for we have been in the "Crucible" and have been tempered in fires that have made us strong in what we believe. Hopefully one day you will come here not with questions but with ideas and thoughts and answers of your own , that might help someone else looking for the answers that brought you here in the first place. All i can say is that if you honestly look inward for your answers and are true to yourself and your beliefs you will be much more confident, and much more aware of who you are as an individual, and that is what makes you strong. Whine, whine, whine… the Republicans are responsible for this mess. The Democrats are responsible for this mess. Obama is responsible for this mess. George Bush is responsible for this mess……… i hate to break it to all of you who are desperately arguing the virtues of those you elected but the reality is … WE ARE RESPONSIBLE for this mess. It is “Our country” and we are the true leaders. Unfortunately many of us have forgotten this or are too apathetic to care. The wonderful thing about this country is the freedoms we all share. We are all free to pursue our dreams and see them realized, we are all free to have our opinions and speak about them openly, we are all free to believe or not believe and practice the spiritual religion of our choice, we are all free to succeed or fail in all of our endeavors. One of the most precious of all of our freedoms is that if we disagree with the current course that our country is taking we can either take charge and use the avenues provided by our Constitution an legislature to effect change or we CAN LEAVE. The same goes with this site. Just like changing the channel on the television or radio, no one is forcing you to participate. If you do not like what you are reading here please exercise your freedom that was provided for you by the millions who have died for their country so that you may have those freedoms and LEAVE. We do not need your hatred and vitriol here, we want your ideas and suggestions, we are not here to stir up hatred and discontent. This country has enough problems without having us turn on ourselves. It is just a “distraction”. When we turn on ourselves, the ones who are planning our demise have won. “Divided we fall” that is the only way they succeed, and they know it. The strength and fortitude of an American people united is a force that cannot be overcome. We are here to find solutions and act as a resource for people who are searching for answers. So if you are not willing to be a positive force for change and contribute ideas and solutions that may help others find the answers that they are looking for, please go somewhere where they want to hear your whining. Thanks, for sharing your e-mail. i have to admit that i get so mad when i'm emailing my representatives. that i feel my thoughts aren't well presented. Your e-mail was great , very direct and factual and to the point. i especially appreciate the fact that you requested a "prompt response". many thanks for sharing and giving the rest of us an example of how to reign in our emotions when writing our reps. tk
