Somebody must have told Antonio to look vulnerable. Glad you noticed the tears.

I love the analogy of the color on the walls to something Linda Blair spat out. Very clever and on target.

Think about running in to Antonio on a dark and scary Transylvanian night. It would scare the beejeebers out of me.

Antonio must have been reading the blog comments because tonight he put on a “humility” face, disingenuously told Dan in the waiting room that no matter what he was a winner. Magnanimity does not become him! While watching his segment, Antonio managed to squeeze out a tear. My partner mentioned having heard a segment on NPR this morning (which I tried to and could not locate) on reality shows and how contestants talk about not being there to make friends. Somehow they have to stand out and iconoclasts stand out. Stander outer Antonio commands an audience and the “schtick” about the disappeared bathroom was clever. Well, my prediction, the bad boy would win, was borne out. Too bad the nice guy didn’t.

I have another take on it rather than project management skills: Sometimes male crews dis women. Antonio wasn't there to direct them on the flooring. They just did it. We don't know how long headboard had been out in the truck. Also Antonio is polite when it serves him well. He surely won't be what some of us see with the carpentry crew or the clients. Of course he got aggravated with his competition; if he can intimidate them, then he gets to be ahead. I don't see that I said anything about his appearance so I am not sure if that was meant for me. I appreciated your comment.

Only reason I can think that Candice would pick Antonio over Lonni is that he does not threaten her status and Lonni might have. I know it sounds petty and I hope it is not true.

All worked hard and displayed talent tonight. Dan comes off as fresh and innocent with an element of surprise--probably reason judges view him as stiff. To me, he is genuine. Lonnie is beautiful and loved by the camera. She listens to her clients. Her design wall became her signature, like Jen last season had wall stencils. The repetitive problem of not having something work out like tonight’s headboard and cups not adhering to the wall earlier gave judges allowed judges to penalize her. She is full of grace and will do fine. Antonio is the iconoclast here and is the one HGTV doesn’t have someone like. They have Bromstad of whom Dan is a prototype, lots of pretty women, but there is no one like Antonio. So, my prediction is Antonio will be it. He will command an audience that viewers love to hate. I also predict pandemonium will follow in his wake. TROUBLEMAKER and don’t say you weren’t warned!

Interesting interaction with all on same project. Torie volunteered but did not lead because of Antonio's steamrolling her. When the issue of the $5k vs $10k came up, Antonio was aware of it but chose not to push for clarification and then groused afterward. GAMES PEOPLE PLAY by Eric Berne described aberrant interactions like "Let's watch you and him fight " which is Antonio's, our proverbial bad boy--i.e. Steve McQueen, James Dean, and Sean Penn, game. Ethically challenged, Antonio is liked by some viewers and judges seem smitten with him. Fun to watch, he would be nigh on to impossible to work with. Dan tried to stand up to him, but Antonio is the "alpha male." Torie capitulated to him on the river rocks. Torie had responsibility in the leadership role to monitor the expenditures. The buck had to stop with her. Her refusal to see her role was not only disappointing, but also cowardly. Dan took responsibility not for the stupid decision of selecting that expensive pergola, but for not being clear about the money. Hopefully, Dan and Lonnie can coalesce when Antonio next starts riding roughshod over them. Nuff said.

HGTV Design Star : Challenge 5: Homes of the Brave

Antonio is a bully even though he is creative and passionate. He coerces and does not persuade. He will be a success if he is the complete boss of his work, but cooperative, he is not. He steamrolls his mates. He discounted Torie's points. What if it had been a disaster? Dan placates and does his job and Torie pitches in. Her choice of colors and accessories enhanced Antonio's unilateral decision. I would have refused to work with him. The judges decision to cancel Nathan seemed correct. His project slowed everyone down. Lonnie's wall had the most flair of anything in their room. The whole show was touching because of what the task was and how appreciative the families were.
