CMS is recommending changes to East Meck in order to attract more students! The recommendation is to start a science/tech/math program. This may be an idea to look into for North Rowan High School rather than go through with the proposed redistricting. Leave the lines alone and make North a place students want to apply to for a specialized educational program.

I like your emphasis of CHOICE. We CHOSE where we live actually making a commitment by PURCHASING a home in the CARSON DISTRICT after doing our HOMEWORK about WHAT WE WANT for our entire family INCLUDING THE SCHOOLS! We were not trying the area out by renting...we did that for three months in a different county (closer to the job) while looking for our permanent home here! Faith, Southeast and Carson district, the perfect home (to us) within said district, the quality of life we want, the easy commute for work, etc....

The majority of objections on here are coming from districts that are being rezoned to NON-NORTH ROWAN. I am not North bashing....I am in the Carson district (I bought in two years eleven months ago!) and I want my child to go to CARSON, not EAST which will happen if the study map # 2 is allowed to happen in its ENTIRETY. The current WEST parents commenting on here appear to be shifting to SOUTH if the plan happens in its entirety. Question: What will the % capacities be for ALL high schools if ONLY THE EAST TO NORTH LINE WERE TO TAKE PLACE? The school board knows the answer to this question......I wish one of them had the strength to get on here to answer that question and the others that have been posed (see Thursday the 22nd Opinion section) to them regarding this redistricting nightmare.

The posting protestors are objecting to their district lines being moved into other district lines. The board wants to increase North Rowan's numbers. This is shown by the aquisition of former East Rowan land. I haven't seen a post from anyone objecting to the new North lines...only the other lines.... I am objecting to Carson lines being moved into East lines. It appears the other protestors are West parents objecting to their children's lines being moved into South's district. These objections are not judging North as a "bad school" they are addressing the love of their respective districts and the wish to remain there!

I am not trying to be ugly...I just want to point out something. Every property holder has something to do with the school system. Residential property taxes go towards the paychecks. I would venture to guess most of the tax paying property owners bought in the school districts they wish all of their children to attend. I want my child to remain in the district MY VOTING AND TAX PAYING FAMILY BOUGHT IN.

continued 3.Beginning with a freshman class, North Rowan High School becomes a desirable place to be for any student in the county and city of Salisbury that know they do not want to pursue college, yet wish to have a vocational and technical school prep education. 4.The new North Rowan Vocational and Technical High School would add a freshman class the second year to the sop****res while the juniors and seniors would be on the previous academic track and so on for two more years until every grade was transitioned to the new program. How much interest is there in this county and the city among students and their families at other high schools for a specialized school such as this? I wonder if there is enough that the numbers for North Rowan would increase dramatically. Of course athletics and fine arts participation numbers would also gain by making North Rowan THE VOCATIONAL TECHNICAL high school for the county! Please school board, how about throwing Study Map # 2A and any others in the trash and work on the logistics for this idea? I truly believe this will make everyone happy…..I will forward my thought to the board as well as posting here.

I have had an epiphany and hope the school board will see this as a viable option for the North Rowan redistricting issue. If someone has already presented a similar solution, I apologize for thinking I have come up with an original idea on the matter. Our American workforce is made up of various levels of college degreed individuals as well as vocational diploma/certificate graduates and high school graduates. Vocational and technical fields take specialized training. I believe a viable option would be to leave all district lines intact as they are while turning North Rowan High into a highly desirable vocational and technical high school. Post will continue

I am speaking as the parent of my child. Possibly, there may be parents who do not care one way or the other where their children will go to school..... As a family we made the decision of living where we think is best for the family...which includes where we want our child educated and involved in extracurricular activities. This happens to be in the high school district as it is now!! We love our home, our town and the schools in our district. I would hope that more parents get on here to show their wishes, concerns etc! Please school board....do not move our lines!!!

Thank you!! I loved being an Army Brat and would do it all over again. I was one from birth to the day I married a civilian, whom I would also marry over again and again. At this stage, I want our roots we have planted in the Carson district we chose to live in to stay firmly in ground. Please school board....do not make changes to the other district lines!!!

My child will be in the ninth grade next year! Rumors are abundant....I have heard it takes effect with the 2010-2011 year and now four years from now. This is another example of the need for official information from the board. In addition to their proposed map they should publish their proposed time frames! The more the board shares and posts on the school system web site before the public hearings (with limited speaking time), the more we can be prepared to give voice as informed citizens.

Maybe I am missing a red line on the proposed map as I do not see any royal blue encroaching across a line into brown....the way I read it the movement comes from East alone. The percentage capacity on the map shows what it will be after all the movement. Here is the link to the map on the system web site http://www.rss.k12.nc.us/Redistrict/Redistrict09/... 2A_Large.pdf I want to know what the capactiy % would be if North gets the East residents as shown on the map while leaving all others intact. Will the end result keep the percentages in the 80's for all schools, if just the East/North adjusment is made? I agree change does not make everyone happy, however an explanation for understanding is in order. I am asking reasonable questions that merit answers. If leaving the other lines intact while North aquires more students from East will leave all schools in the 80 plus % (Here is where an answer to my questions would be beneficial), why would the board cause unecessary stress by moving students around in the other districts?

I am objecting to the movement of a Carson line into the East Rowan lines! Again, the board has taken upon itself to address North Rowan High School, yet somehow slipping in line changes to all COUNTY highs chools is being proposed. The district shifting into North in the proposed map comes solely from East Rowan. I would like to know what the utilization percentage capacity for East would be if North does get former East students from the proposed plan while leaving all other high school district lines ALONE. If Salisbury High School can be left intact by this plan, why not others?
