Well, if they really are good friends then you'll see them again. There's only a few people I still stay in contact with. The rest were just passing acquaintances.

Where you off to next then, Jo? Frank might be stopping by here in Munich on the way back to Syria (I think he said) after his holiday back home!

Thanks Bowe! I\\\'ve watched Into The Wild just a couple months back and was quite impressed with it. I\\\'ve come to realize that some roots are important. Especially the older I get :)

Travel-Junkie : Anecdotes Of A Dive Instructor – Part IV

Hey Claire, glad you like my little stories. "It's interesting the way you managed this tricky situation". Sounds a bit like you dissaprove of my methods :) It was the only time I punched a student, though. During my IDC I was told that the only acceptable time to hit a student was when they stopped breathing underwater and it worked really well on Frank, so I decided to try it on Richard as well even though he was breathing. None of the punches were particularly hard, but they seemed to take all the energy out of the two lads. The rest was easy compared to the first few minutes.

It only looks like this on the picture. In reality the shark was probably smaller than you. Sharks that are only 1,5 m long hunt for prey that is much much smaller than that.

Hey Dave, yep, Jan took it. Underwater images are always a bit tricky cause of particles in the water and the way light gets filtered out the deeper you go. This one was taken really shallow. Blacktips only look like bullies. Try getting really close to one and you'll see what I mean :) I snorkeled with a juvenile blacktip on Lembata, Indonesia, and it was really shallow and the tide was coming in strong. A couple of times the current almost pushed us into each other, which was great for me, but I'm pretty sure he'd have wet his pants if he had some.

Travel-Junkie : I Am A Tourist - Are You?

Hey Gary, cheers for your comment. It seems that most people tend to agree with my thinking, but I then I ask myself where this discussion actually comes from... Where're you at these days? Still bumming around Koh Tao?

It's not as bad as it may seem. In over 1600 dives I've had maybe 4 or 5 that were a bit hairy and nobody got any lasting damage. Jaques was alright again after a couple days. He was lucky and only got a bit of an ear squeeze and that was about as bad as it got. Diving's safer than football or bowling...

Well, ducks might be a different story, but squid are being dried all over Asia and it's a delicious snack, Daniel. Can't think of anything unhealthy there either. No fat, no preservatives, no sugar, just yummy :)

Travel-Junkie : The Road To Becoming A Dive Instructor

Hey Luke, yeah, it's not a problem. There's equivalent certs in most organizations. So, if you finish your SSI AOW, then you could take the PADI Rescue Course next. SSI seems to be a good organization, by the way. A few of my friends in Thailand have switched over from PADI in recent years. PADI will still give you the better chances of finding work, though. There's far more PADI shops around than SSI. Safe travels, Bo

Travel-Junkie : 10 Things You Wish You'd Known About Travelling

Hello Stacy, you're welcome. First time I went travelling I imagined it to be all glamorous, but I think it's important to know that it's not always like that. People often don't realize that travelling can be hard work, even if you don't work at all :)

Hey Mark, how are you, mate? I'm good, getting back into life here in Munich. Once I'm actually earning some money, we should meet up! Glad you like the design! A lot of work went into it. I changed things around, so at the moment you only get an account here if you have a published article. I'll incorporate some social features in the future, then you can sign up again. Bo
