GazetteOnline.com : The Last Call -- The long ball

DJK not being able to speak seems a little harsh IMO. However, I don't know what goes on in practice or if he is late to practice, etc. Ferentz has his reasons is all I know. Marc, in the photo above where Kirk is yelling 'think' to DJK, do you know what play that was or was it something that did not involve the ball or a missed route, something that we would not recognize? I don't recall an overt mistake by DJK in first half, do you?

GazetteOnline.com : Iowa defense deflates ISU in 3Q

1st quarter was as textbook as it can be. A veritable clinic. Very few mistakes 1st half and whole game really. Worried about the heat/time zone next week, but feel a little better after today.

GazetteOnline.com : Kirk Speraw joins Iowa's men's basketball staff - this seems like a very sound hire

Great hire. I wonder if Kirk will be comfortable being in a subordinate role after having ran the show for so long. Both seem to be strong-willed men. I don't really anticipate any problems though.

Jonny Mullings plans to grayshirt by this time next year IIRC. I know he's a punter but I've seen video of him kicking off and he always puts it in the endzone. Just wondering if things don't turn around this year if he might be the answer.

GazetteOnline.com : Where does Iowa fit in Saturday's spring football game crowd-counts?

I think for a few of these teams, it's a chance for those who cannot get/afford a regular season game ticket to see the stadium and team; some for the first time. Alabama, Nebraska etc. are hard tickets to come by in reg. season.

GazetteOnline.com : Coach Ferentz, please give DJK to the people

I'm amused by the relationship that is Kirk & DJK. A little like Tom & Jerry. I'm glad Kirk is so even tempered and DJK knows roughly where the line is that he cannot cross or it would never work.

GazetteOnline.com : Morris: More than ready

I'm happy to see we are getting more and more kids that are willing to put in the extra time in the weightroom, filmroom, etc. They see Iowa football as being all about dedication to improvement. They are not only willing to put in the extra hours during the season to get better, but see the off season as where they can make huge strides for the team. From the past, Tim Dwight fit this mold. Now I see Brandon Wegher, AJ Derby, James Morris and few others that are of this same type of mindset. It worked well for Tim Dwight as we all know. Whatever they lack in pure athleticism (and I'm not sure they lack anything) they equalize by the hard work they put in. I've often wondered about some of the top 50 or so recruits nationally that didn't pan out. If some of these heralded players spent as much extra time and energy working to improve, I'm curious how much of a household name they would have become. Jerry Rice also fits this mindset. It is notorious how hard he trained in the off season. Hopefully, with quite a few on the team now with this discipline, I'm optimistic it will be contagious.
