Progress is good, but I see this just being the beginning, as converter boxes become obsolete once the new h264 standard starts being used. Also, the reason that this transition was pushed so hard is so the FCC can collect their tens of billions of dollars for selling the spectrum that analog TV used to use, and they'll end up selling more spectrum once the switch to h264 allows for more narrow channels and less bandwidth (more value!!! and we can get even richer!!! omg this is brilliant!). It's twice as efficient as the current standard, and its what the rest of the world is already using. Also, considering DVB's error correction is superior to DTV, I don't get why the US is pushing 10 year old technology with poor error correction (the 'blockiness' you see when the signal is poor) when the worldwide standard is far superior (its a lot more forgiving when the signal is weak, and the picture quality is a lot better too, and allows for more subchannels. Oh well, we'll get there, just way late as usual.
