We should have learned by now that we can't allow banks that are backed by taxpayers to invest in high risk ventures. Therefore, FDIC-insured banks have to be watched like hawks. Why is Tony so much against regulating banks? Tony, please explain! Are you receiving a paycheck from the bankers? We need advocates for ordinary people appointed throughout the executive branch.
Too bad Arianna wasn't around for the year-end wrap up. She's good at that type of thing. Without her, the show descended into locker room banter (e.g. Matt discussing Tiger Woods purchasing teams of prostitutes -- wow). One of the themes Accenture used in Tiger ads was his ability to find his way through (golfing) trouble. His mettle on the larger stage will be revealed this year. On the other hand, we could all use some levity. After all, even in the Depression we had some laughs. Even Bob tried to lighten up, which was appreciated. I almost never agree with Tony, but I appreciate his jokes. It is unfortunate that things that you say in jest are thrown in your face later. Keep it up!
What we are observing is the fact that our democratic government cannot respond to a long term problem, the solution to which results in unpleasant consequences for a large number of voters and political donors. I am extremely saddened that President Obama and the Democrats will probably go down because they are trying to do the right thing for the country and the planet. The USA would be much better off if we got off carbon fuel ASAP. We can lead in the new technologies, and we would not have to pay the sheiks, fight wars, etc.. However, unless people are personally and immediately impacted by climate change (e.g., you own a ski resort), they are not going to support the required changes.
Bob implies that government employees and Congress have "public" health care. This is not exactly correct. Yes, the government pays part of the health insurance bill for government employees (employees pay about 1/2 of the bill), but the payments for the health insurance are made to private companies. It is not a single payer system like Medicare.
Bob should drop his "men are pigs" theme. After all, women are also involved, and every one of them knows that Tiger is married. People are pigs! Reading between the lines of the story, it seems possible that Tiger's wife is technically guilty of a crime. Tiger may be in a tough spot because he does not want her to get in trouble, and therefore he is not telling the whole truth about this incident.
