Is the author then proposing an annual revaluation exercise? If that's possible for this new tax, then surely it could also be done for the present Council Tax.?

I don't see anything in this article that contradicts you on the aim of education?

It's the first piece I've seen that explicitly talks about the purpose of exams being to measure what a student knows, rather than simply a way of differentiating between candidates.

The doomsday scenario back at the start of the pandemic was 500,000 deaths. The direct government spending of £280bn means that every life saved cost over half a million pounds to achieve. If that initial model exaggerated the number of fatalities, the cost per life saved is understated.

A quality adjusted life year is valued at about £20k in the UK system. So our interventions should have, on average, given everyone saved 28 years longer life?

A common reason to home educate is the quality (or lack thereof) of the local schools - it would make no sense to then put those same schools in charge of regulating the home educators in their catchment.

Sunak's rating is likely just as much due to his comments about "living with the virus" and pushback on some of the more extreme public health proposals than his financial measures.

Yes, I only caught a part of the webcast. It would be wonderful if a recording of the whole event could be put online, not just a highlight clip.

Prospective governors shouldn't spend their own money on a DBS check. Schools will expect to undertake that as part of the recruitment process and a volunteer shouldn't see it as a prerequisite they have to pay for. Schools will welcome the interest in joining their governance team with or without an existing DBS in place.
