Northern Ontario Business : Northern Ontario as a pop can

David, I agree, that model of development does suck. A community like Elliot Lake is a notable exception, who found a way to reverse the vacuum for retirement living. Our towns have leaders, they just may be union leaders that coach sports teams. The leaders (private/public/participants) need to come together to develop made in the North solutions. How can we add value for Northern Ontario? Great article btw, David Thompson

CoffeeNate.com : CoffeeNate #27 :: CoffeeNate on Tim Hortons

I would think that McDonalds would be taking away Tim's market share now - since there aren't these dictatorial rules about kicking people out. Also, they have crazy discounts for seniors to purchase muffins with their morning coffee.

My only guess as to the hype is the perceived value of Tim Hortons. It doesn't really appeal to people who want a quality cup of coffee and a comfortable atmosphere, but to those who want it at a cheap price. even though you could buy the same quality of coffee at a gas station, Tim Hortons is quick at delivering it with some variety of baked goods. They do a good job of appealing to the elderly or people who don't have the resources to buy coffee at upscale coffeehouses. There are Tim Hortons in southern ontario that offer espressos - haven't tried it yet though. Tim's corporate probably thinks that it'll take Northern Ontario to catch on that there is better coffee to drink.... We only have one starbucks in a grocery store; and another starbucks hidden in a hotel.

Hey Nate! yes, I was thinking the same thing... about the monotone voice.. its alot different when I see you around singing, humming, talking in different accents or tongues, etc. I was wondering if you would have a review show where you get a bunch of people together to taste test the coffee and all give a review. I think the best part of coffee is the social.

Nate, it turned out great :) glad to see you mentioned ASOPRICOR. Just to fill people in it's Jose Reyes from Tocaima. His organization ASOPRICOR has been working with the Community Economic & Social Development program at Algoma U in a research partnership for about 3 years now.

nate, if you are interested in doing interviews later on...i have a coworker here from colombia who has lots of experience working with groups who produce coffee in colombia, and who are now doing diversified agriculture projects. he has a wealth of knowledge about the effects of monoculture on communities, since he has been working in rural colombia and international organizations for many years. just a thought! he was the one in that video dave
