Hi Nora, have you ever considered adding chapter markers to the Spark podcast file? As someone who listens to the Spark Extra feed, I usually skip the interviews I have heard before - but there is no easy way to do this (at least on my 2G Nano). It would be nice if I could just click the 'next' button to move to the next segment. Keep up the great work at Spark!

I agree with most of Stoddart's views, but she seems to have a bit of an anti-business streak. The fact that she repeatedly emphasized "profit" as a nefarious motive, and that she thinks police intrusions into privacy are *less* of a concern than corporate intrusions, struck me as a bit overzealous.

So, this guy seems persuasive enough, but ultimately all he has is a long stream of anecdotal evidence from his own company, which as the other commenters point out is limited by sector and scale. Nora - can you please question these guests a little harder? How about asking this guy for proof of any of his claims?

Nora, I thought you let Thorp off too easy in this discussion. There are definitely some clear benefits to more centralized technologies -- email hasn't changed since 1995, for example, but Facebook is getting upgraded all the time. Even if Thorp thinks closed systems are bad on balance, it would have been good to hear Thorp's response to this issue. I know Spark is not a debate show, but you do frequently have guests who make very sweeping claims (usually "technology X is bad") and I for one would like to see some more pushback in your interviews. The show should not just be a platform for these opinions, but a forum to critically examine them. Still love the show, though -- keep up the great work.

From the Criminal Code: "718.2 A court that imposes a sentence shall also take into consideration the following principles: (a) a sentence should be increased or reduced to account for any relevant aggravating or mitigating circumstances relating to the offence or the offender, and, without limiting the generality of the foregoing, (i) evidence that the offence was motivated by bias, prejudice or hate based on race, national or ethnic origin, language, colour, religion, sex, age, mental or physical disability, sexual orientation, or any other similar factor" Why wouldn't honour killings come under the "sex" component of 718.2(a)(i)?
