Yeah, I loved the Star Trek cards. That worked well. It was definitely more of a reward. I think it will work once my kids develop a strong affinity for a particular hobby.

Thanks, Pat. I agree. I want Christi and my kids to hear "I love you" from me loudly, publically, and often.

That's great, John! Christi and I try to break the stigma of marital counseling by sharing our need for it and our very positive experience. I really hope that this post helps people realize that getting counseling is ok. We're in marriage for the long haul and we're going to use every tool at our disposal to make it work. Thanks for the encouragement and for stopping by!

Thinking Family : Big Gulps and I Love You

Yeah. It's funny. I'm not sure I remember much of any lectures on love my parents gave. Examples like these I remember 20+ years later. Makes me wonder if I'm being the right example of love for my kids.

Thinking Family : What Did You Learn In School?

I agree, John. The best skill we can develop as parents and leaders is that of asking questions. Jesus was truly a master of asking questions that got to the heart of the matter.

Thinking Family : Bilingual or American?

I went to a British School in Hong Kong when I was little. Totally screwed up my ability to spell! I spell half my words American style and half British style. If I didn't have an American spell check on my computer, I would really be in trouble! (Since most of my work is with Americans!) Thanks for stopping by! -Paul.

College requirements helped me further my Spanish studies as well. I think hosting an exchange student is a great way to help your kids develop an awareness of the world around them. Thanks for the comment, John! -Paul.
