KOMO - Seattle, WA : Ride along with Barefoot Bandit on his run from the law | Local & Regional | Seattle News, Weather,

The aircraft was either a Columbia 400 or Corvalis 400 (same thing, just renamed after Cessna bought the company). The TIT is for the turbocharger, and would also be found on any turbine powered aircraft - not just turbojets. My only question in this whole thing is why did the dirtbag get such a light sentence? He deserves a few decades in prison.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Showers of cash in forecast as cruise ship season begins | Local & Regional | Seattle News, Weather,

If that's how you feel, never watch a show about cars, bicycles, swimming, or even walking. The odds of something going wrong are small statistically, but when they do go wrong, holy cow! Since you've never been on a cruise ship, let me tell you something that was left out of your show. Cruise ships coming to US ports are required to have a muster drill on each sailing, and they all do. Crews are required to train for emergencies and practice with regular drills, and they do. Look at recent reports of cruise ship fires - the fires are consistently put out quickly by the crew. Watch cruise ships in their various ports of call - you can almost always find one doing a drill loading crew members (standing in for the passengers) into a couple lifeboats and putting those lifeboats into the water. If something goes wrong, I would much rather be on a cruise ship than on a freeway. On a cruise ship you have a well-trained crew to help; on the freeway you have a bunch of drivers who will slow down for a good look and who might take a picture.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Cinco De Mayo: Holiday history lost in marketing? | Video | Seattle News, Weather, Sports, Breaking

The video won't play for me, either. For those who want to know the history, in late 1861 the French invaded Mexico because their president had refused to pay back foreign loans. On 5 May 1862 a defensive Mexican force of about 4,000 managed to crush the 8,000 French invaders. The victory was a huge morale boost for the Mexican army, and helped establish a sense of unity and national pride for Mexicans. Naturally, the victory was only short lived. The French returned with appropriate numbers and completely overwhelmed the Mexican army, establishing a French Emperor to run the country. But that didn't last, either. After winning the War of Northern Aggression, the Yankees helped Mexican guerrillas overthrow the French as retribution for French support of the Confederacy.

Wouldn't the good behavior rule come into play? For each day he plays by the rules, he would get his time shortened by one day. So if he is sentenced to 51 years, he could be out in 25.5 years. If he is 41, he could be out by the time he turns 66 - not over 90.

Thank you, Kennewick School District, for showing me how to pay for my children to go to college! I am going to record each of them holding and describing an AR-15, AK-47, and M1911. Maybe I'll record the video at a shooting range and have them demonstrate firing each gun. Then I post the video online, let the school expel them for exercising first and second amendment rights, and sue! Unfortunately for me as a parent, but fortunately for me as a taxpayer, I don't think the administrator of my local school district would be as stupid as the administrator in Kennewick.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Judge: Wash. can\'t make pharmacies sell Plan B | Local & Regional | Seattle News, Weather, Sports,

So, if I understand you correctly, the government making a rule forcing somebody who runs a business to stock and sell products that violate that person's religious beliefs does not violate that person's free exercise of religion. But, on the other hand, allowing somebody who runs a business to not sell products that violate the business owner's religious beliefs does impede on people's freedom of religion? When you say religion should not have been considered in this case, you are saying that anybody who sells pharmaceuticals should not have the right to their own religious beliefs. The case directly stems from Governor Gregoire taking a position that forces pharmacists to sell Plan B drugs even though doing so violates that pharmacist's religious beliefs. Why don't you think pharmacists have a right to free exercise of religion?

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Report: Small planes still pour lead into skies | Local & Regional | Seattle News, Weather, Sports,

Are you a hypocrite or are you on drugs? I suspect you drive a car, so what you really mean is, "zero tolerance on anything we can control - except what I put into the atmosphere. You aren't allowed to have fun in your way, but I am." The fact that you used a computer to access a website shows you sincerely believe, "It is perfectly fine for lead to be thrown into the atmosphere to generate power for my entertainment, but it is unacceptable for lead to be thrown into the atmosphere for your entertainment." This is a textbook example of hypocrisy. I also suspect you occasionally take airline flights - since a majority of Americans do, it is a safe bet. So what you really mean is, "I can take a plane wherever I want, whenever I want - but I demand training aircraft be grounded so future generations don't enjoy the same freedom. I am more special than younger people." I will bet you buy products manufactured overseas, and are happy to do so. So what you really mean is, "Pollution of the air and water to satisfy me is fine, but if it doesn't satisfy me then it should be banned." I will bet you buy lots of products made in China. By so doing you say, "Environmental protection demands we don't manufacture things in the United States; we manufacture them in countries with no pollution controls."

The problem isn't about going broke. If you had educated yourself on the subject before posting, you would know the tiny amount of tetraethyl lead is necessary for safe combustion in aircraft engines. Furthermore, just because a radio reporter says something doesn't make it true. A 2008 study commissioned by the AOPA found general aviation is the source of less than one tenth of one percent of lead emissions. You will believe what sounds good to you - the unsubstantiated "half". But I will believe legitimate research. Great minds are working on developing a lead replacement for high octane fuels. When something is shown to be safe, reliable, and cost effective, tetraethyl lead will no longer be added to avgas.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : New details emerge in case of missing Bellevue boy | Local & Regional | Seattle News, Weather, Sport

"Usually at the hand of a man"? You have been taken in by lies from people with a political agenda. The truth of the matter, as demonstrated by every peer-reviewed study I have reviewed, is that women commit acts of domestic violence at about the same rate as men. Half of all abusers are women. Of course, we live in a society where this is permitted, and in some ways even encouraged. Woman-on-man violence is justified because "he deserves it" or "she is just defending herself" even though nobody deserves it and in typical domestic abuse situations the victim did nothing to provoke violence.

This story just shows more proof of how biased family courts are against men. The mother tells blatant lies, accusing the father of abuse, and he is stripped of custody. When those lies are proven to be lies, the father has to beg the court for permission to see his kids again, and the courts can (and regularly do) continue to refuse based on a lie. When confronted with irrefutable proof the mother lied to the court and others, courts typically take no action against the mother. If you are a mother who has custody of a child, even joint custody, feel free to ignore court orders to let the father see the kids. Nothing bad will ever happen to you. But if the father is a week late with child support the judge will tear him a new one for violating court orders. Justice is not found in the family court system.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : 3-year-old boy shoots leg with .357-caliber handgun | Local & Regional | Seattle News, Weather, Spor

You've never felt it necessary to have a firearm - good for you. Are you trying to reason that because you have not "felt the need" you don't think the right should exist? I have never felt the need to publish anything, assemble, or petition congress for a redress of grievances, therefore I have never felt the need to exercise 60% of my first amendment rights. I don't know anybody who has been forced to house soldiers, so I have never felt the need to exercise my third amendment rights. Police have never tried searching me, my car, or my house, therefore I have never felt the need to exercise my fourth amendment rights. Police have also never tried interrogating me, taking my property, charging me with an infamous crime, or retried me for an alleged crime, so I have never felt the need to exercise my fifth amendment rights. Since I have never been accused in a criminal or civil trial, I have never felt the need to exercise my six or seventh amendment rights. I have never been arrested so I have never exercised my 8th amendment right against excessive bail, and since I haven't been convicted I have never exercised the rights against cruel & unusual punishment. I am not a state so the 10th amendment doesn't even apply to me. Of all the rights in the originally-passed measures of the bill of rights I only exercise the rights to free expression, religion, to keep & bear arms, and "other rights" protected by the 9th amendment - such as the right to travel. So, if I apply your implied reasoning, should I oppose all other rights?" When I see state control of media in places like Venezuela or North Korea, I value free press. When I see governments have their people shoot at crowds, I value the rights of assembly and petitioning Congress. When I see governments oppressing people, I value the right to keep and bear arms. The so-called "legal system" of many other countries causes me to value the 4th, 5th, 6th, 8th, and 9th amendments. And the security and comfort I feel at home leads me to value the third amendment. Let me correct you on one other thing - lobbying by the NRA is the reason we have background checks when somebody buys a gun! To buy a gun, after filling out the paperwork, you have to present a valid, government-issued identification to prove your identity. Then a representative of the gun store calls either the state police or FBI, depending on state law, for an instant background check.

When my daughter was young she knew I would beat her butt if she skipped school, lied, stole, etc. Then one day, as a high school student, she missed a party because she misbehaved and I would not let her out the door. That 'friend' called CPS, and by the end of our dealing the CPS officer told me that by grounding her and not letting her out I could be accused of false imprisonment and flat out told me I could not punish my daughter without her consent. Since the government now interferes with parents disciplining their children, I can't be as hard on parents who lose control of their children.

Not quite accurate. There is one main current heading east across the northern Pacific, from just north of Hokkaido heading towards Vancouver Island. This current originates at the convergence of the Oyashio current, which follows the Asian coast south from near the Bearing Sea, and the Kuroshio current, which moves north from the Philippines. Off the west coast of North America that current splits into two - the Alaska current heading north and the California current heading south. The bottle somehow drifted or was blown westwards as the California current moved it south, so it would end up in the northern part of the North Equatorial current and move toward the Big Island.

Pop the parachute and you destroy the aircraft. Avionics and some parts can be salvaged, but the aircraft itself is a total loss. The CAPS chute is useful for pilot incapacitation, structural failure, power loss over inhospitable terrain, or inability to control the aircraft. Anybody who has earned their private pilot license has practiced what to do in the event of a loss of power. Find someplace close where you can make an emergency landing, set yourself on approach, and make the best landing you can. It sounds like the pilot of the Cirrus tried to do this, but also tried to stretch the glide much too far. From the NTSB report (available at their website) I will remind myself to choose a landing site within half my theoretical glide distance should I lose power.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Driver escapes injury after Jeep crashes following chase | 911 | Tumwater News

In 2008 a bicyclist minding his own business was shoved off his bicycle by a police officer with an attitude problem. Fortunately bystanders recorded the incident; otherwise the innocent person, who you say should not be afraid of the police, would have been convicted of assaulting an officer and resisting arrest. Just this month, charges were dropped against victims of police brutality and misconduct right here in Seattle. A drunk officer picks a fight, waves his gun, and kicks an innocent person who was handcuffed, but that person shouldn't be afraid of the police. Police are just there to help in Fantasyland. In the real world some police officers are corrupt, others are bullies, and some have anger issues. On Youtube you can find videos of Professor James Duane, Rutgers Law School, describing how perfectly innocent people trying to help get tripped up by police - and sometimes convicted. Those perfectly innocent people have plenty to fear from police. You make my point for me - "9.9 out of 10 times, they will treat you with respect." Personally I think the number is much closer to 9.0, but either way the statement indicates not all police will be respectful.
