You should invest in a kindle. You can just instantly download your new books that way! I was thankful for it when I raced through the Hunger Games trilogy. Don't think I would've survived waiting for a chance to get to the bookstore!

Staying up all night to finish a good book really is one of the best joys in life!
Glad to be reading with you again, school got hectic and I fell behind.

PS: I got to the point where I was reading 3+ RL Stein books per day. My mom got pissed for having to spend so much money :)

“A DEFINITION NOT FOUND IN THE DICTIONARY Not leaving: an act of trust and love, often deciphered by children."
This makes me want to let my daughter sleep in my bed every night so I can just hold her until she wakes up. Some lines just stick with me when I read a book, and this is one of them.

I don't think that Hans has any real reasons for being nice. I think he is just the fatherly type. Hell, I don't think many people could listen to a child scream in the middle of the night and not go comfort them. I hate other people's kids but if I heard that I would be there in an instant.

And Happy St. Patrick's Day!!

I can relate with Rosa's "odd" way of showing affection. That is how all of my friends and I interact. I'm not like that as much with my daughter, but I do tease her when she falls down...
Anyway, on to Hans. I don't think that rolling cigarettes can be relaxing, but then again I was never good at it and only did it when I wanted to smoke. I suppose it could be very relaxing to a nine year old with no nicotine cravings.
Also, "He loved to smoke." Great line. All you ever hear about these days is that a person is addicted and/or they want to quit. I, like Hans, love to smoke. I know the consequences blah blah blah.. but I honestly just love it. No desire to quit at all.

I don't think that Liesel will use The Gravediggers Handbook to try to dig up her brother. It was said that she had very little education and could barely speak correctly. I think that a handbook will be written in plain enough language that she can use it to teach herself to read. Perhaps Hans Hubermann will teach her. He seems like a good guy.

On another note, it's the Ides of March!

As you said, it was never not female-friendly. But I do however see how they progressed in that sense. Take for example our two main female characters, Hermione and Ginny. In the beginning, Hermione is self-conscious and lets everyone tease her. As the books progress, she is not afraid to put herself out there as the beautiful girl she is. She also stands up to the boys when she has to. Ginny transforms from the shy, starstruck girl we first meet to the strong and stubborn girl who refuses to wait around during the final battle.
And of course, the best strong female moment of the series (possibly ever!): NOT MY DAUGHTER, YOU BITCH!

I believe Hogwarts is free other than books and supplies. And as for the school song, Harry misses about half of the opening feasts in his six years there, so we'll never know about those..

"It happened very suddenly. The hook-nosed teacher looked past Quirrell’s turban straight into Harry’s eyes—and a sharp, hot pain shot across the scar on Harry’s forehead."
I didn't see this when I was 11 reading this the first time. I missed it when I was 15 rereading it. If I had the book on me to be rereading along now, I probably STILL would have missed it. Thank you Mark!

My favorite part of the epilogue is how Katniss describes being terrified while pregnant. It is the scariest thing in the world to have a baby inside you when you have no idea what it will be like to take care of it when it comes out.

I'm excited for a couple Infinite Jest reviews! It's been too long.
And, seeing as I have never read The Book Thief, I will be attempting to read it one chapter at a time with Mark.
