Big Hollywood : In Memoriam: Andrew Breitbart (1969-2012)

This is a crummy way to start my day. Unbelievable. RIP Mr. Breitbart. I regret not having had a chance to meet you in person.

Big Hollywood : Trailer Talk: 'Avengers' Assemble, Squabble in New Superhero Snippet

I'm risking some down thumbs here, but here goes: Truthfully, it's not simply the politics of the cast that makes me leery of the movie, although that does play a factor. It's the director/writer Joss Whedon. I know that many people are all happy because they think that he can nail it, but truth be told I was never that impressed. Sure, he had Buffy, and people still call "Firefly" criminally underrated, but truthfully I find his work over rated. I feel like all his characters, regardless of circumstances, delve into the same bag of tricks. Snarkiness, sarcasim, and the occasional attempts at genuiness that feel forced. I think that Whedon will be the downfall of this movie, and it will kill his standing in Hollywood. Or at least among fans.

Big Hollywood : Thank New Media for Sucker Punch-Free Oscars

A few lazy swipes at conservatism and a nod to the OWS crowd hardly counts as enough to make me happy. To me it's like being happy that I was flogged less today than yesterday. As far as Chris Rock's comments about voice actors go, he's an obnoxious twit who has no business commenting on it. Being a voice actor use to mean that you actually displayed something called "range." Just because you aren't in front of a camera doesn't mean that it takes no talent. I think he's confusing his own underwhelming lack of ability as how the real voice acting (or acting period) community functions.

Big Hollywood : ‘Act of Valor’: The Movie Traditional Hollywood Can’t - and Won’t - Make

We recently had a guy in the church I go to get back from deployment just in time to see the birth of his first daughter, my wife and I weren't able to catch a glimpse of their new one because of the crowd around them congratulating them. Take a second to consider what I just wrote. If you don't realize that modern Hollywood represents the antithesis of everything that the sentence stands for than you don't know modern Hollywood. This article touches on so many truths that it would take a series of articles to just to explain to Hollywood lib. Why should I continue to shell out money and time to see the same insipid garbage that they make year after year. Why should I even attempt to see the movies that are up for best picture when I can pretty much count on them to contain numerous stabs at my beliefs? Hollywood hates me and I that I stand for. But it's okay Hollywood, don't worry. I hate you too.

Sorry to speak ill here John, but you need to have better research/investingation into the links you provide at times. I clicked and read the article about the "7 worst role models for women in Romantic Comedies" and it had a few slams on Christians and wrapped up with a slam on Mitt Romney. (Not that I'm a supporter, just that a cheap shot at a Romney seemed like a stupid way to wrap up the article.)

Yup, it's official now. Hollywood hates my childhood. It's okay Hollywood, I hate you to now. I thought I felt betrayed when you jacked up G.I. Joe and made them an "international" team of soldiers. I truly thought I was given the backhand when a Transformers movie came out and used Bumblebee to stage a crude "pee" joke. Now though, you've made it clear. You are the enemy.

Seconded. Hollywood's snobbery when it comes to fantasy has only been put on hold--slightly--one time ever that I can recall, and that was for Lord of the Rings. I think that was more out of fear of audiences than anything else.

Big Hollywood : Directors Kevin Smith and Spike Lee: Two Mouths Mightier than their Films

Excellent way of putting it. I liked Smith's early catalog of movies. One day, my wife (then fiancee') watched Clerks, and was disgusted. She pointed out that the stuff I was laughing at there, would be stuff I would be decrying from other films as being tasteless trash. At first I didn't agree at all, but the more I thought about it though, the more I was disgusted at myself for having been so blind. Consequently, I scraped the "Clerks" bumper sticker from my car and I'm usually happier for following my wife's advice.

Big Hollywood : 33 Years After His Death, John Wayne Is a Bigger Movie Star Than George Clooney

"John Wayne Lives" kinda reminds me of the old "Frodo Lives" graffiti. Can some one scrawl "John Wayne Lives" across the Hollywood sign or the Mann Chinese Theater or the foreheads of the presidents of major studios?
Youtube has become more of a free market in terms of what gets "shown" than broadcast television. A vewier "votes" by whether they upvote or down vote a video and whether they subscribe to a channel that produces consistently good content. Videos like those produced by Freddie Wong, the Epic Mealtime gang, and Danboe are just to name a few, are under constant pressure to produce fresh, audience building and sustaining content--which is something that Hollywood hasn't been trying to do for years.
