Genderfork : Understand from the outside.

Wow, I'm kind of lucky to have read this now. I also had really long hair as a kid, and I cut mine when I graduated from university, and it's been short-ish since. It's grown out a bit (to my shoulders) and it's driving me insane. However, everyone I live with hounds me on a daily basis (literally!) to keep my hair this length, because "It really, really suits you. So much more than the other style." "It grew out! Great, you look much better." "If you were my girlfriend, I'd want you to keep you hair like that." I was battling about whether or not to cut it when I checked genderfork. Lifesaver. :)

Genderfork : Solidarity to overcome privelege

I have a lot to say about this video, but honestly it's the comments that get to me more than anything. I'm really not much of a crier, but one of them almost brought me to tears. It's astounding and painful that a member of the transgendered community would respond to this kind of video by saying that being GQ is mostly about presentation, and we just look like "gay or lesbian peeps" anyway. Maybe if stores sold androgyny-specific clothing, or if there was a surgery that could actually make my body fit my spirit, then I would look a little less gay to you, kind youtube poster. I personally shy away from the term 'privilege', but I have often wished that I were FtM instead of Ft? so that I could have a surgery to help with how much my body just doesn't correlate. In a way, it is a privilege that transsexuals have that, but I think we all struggle pretty fiercely in our bigendered society.
