I've almost stopped to buy any music online lately. Even more, I've almost stopped to listen to old records I had already bought =) Online streaming is quite sufficient - soma.fm, sky.fm, last.fm, jamendo.com, you name it... I don't spend electricity to spin raid arrays of home file server anymore. To me it seems impractical to keep loads of records you won't be able to listen again for months even your collection is playing a loop. At the same time I found myself praising artists with small donation tips much more often than earlier. Especially those who release their music under Creative Commons licenses. Listen/download for free and donate back as much as you like - that's the only proper model in a creative world.
