Does PwnageTool 4.2 have a built-in 24kpwn 3GS profile for those of us with pwned old-bootrom 3GSes who wish to remain pwned? Or are we still stuck manually swapping profiles out? And, if so, do we need to use the previous version, or will the old profile still work on 4.2?

Cheers. I look forward to the release of PwnageTool for my lovely pwned 3GS. Gotta love that 24kpwn. Also, congrats to dhlizard from his friends at the MacRumors forum.

Is there a reason those of us with old-bootrom 3GSes aren't allowed to use custom boot logos on our 24kpwn-ed phones?

Perhaps, but, respectfully, that is not what I am asking. I'm just trying to figure out how to get the "Manage Sources" function in PT working. I am asking how to do something, not why I should not do it. Surely I am entitled to experiment with my phone if I want to?

I have been trying to add a repository in the "Cydia packages..." tab of PwnageTool, but I am not having any luck. Has anyone been able to add packages from a source source other than the four preconfigured ones?

Of course I understood why you replied. You felt you had already been answered. My point is that you had not been fully answered because nobody had pointed out that your question was asinine. Of course a new version of the 4.26.08 unlock from the Dev Team isn't going to fix a problem with blackra1n from Geohot. Clearly, since you still don't understand how stupid your question is, dhlizard was more than justified in pointing out that you hadn't read it. Next time read the f-ing post and don't ask irrelevant and foolish questions.

Very few people have 3.0.1 on file; if Cydia says he has 3.0 ECID SHSH on file, he's can definitely restore to 3.0 but probably not to 3.0.1.

You are trying to restore to 3.0, not 3.0.1, right? That's the file you're using. This is not wrong, since very few people actually have 3.0.1 ECID SHSHs on file with Saurik. He had just started requesting them when Apple stopped signing. Most of us just have 3.0, 3.1, and 3.1.2. As for your problem...try pinging gs.apple.com. See what ip address the ping is returned from. If it's not 74.208.10.249, then your hosts file hasn't been edited properly. Finally, I'm with Confucious...what is the exact text of the error message you are receiving?

Why did you have ultrasn0w and blacksn0w installed on the same phone? ultrasn0w is an unlock for the old baseband, blacksn0w for the new. You should never have them both installed on the same phone. I am going to assume you have baseband 5.11.07 and were one of those duped into installing ultrasn0w thinking it would fix your wifi issues with blacksn0w. My recommendation would be to jailbreak your phone on 3.1.2 with PwnageTool if you can and then install blacksn0w from Cydia. If you can't do that, then restore to official and then blackra1n followed by blacksn0w. And don't under any circumstances install ultrasn0w on your phone. It will not solve and problems and might cause new ones.

Oh! You have to uncheck that box in PwnageTool if you want to activate normally in iTunes. If you don't, PT will "hacktivate" your phone. Anyone with an official SIM or a factory unlocked iPhone should not hacktivate.

Where did I say that your phone didn't need to be activated? I think I said clearly that every iPhone (which includes factory unlocked ones) needed to be activated, and also that I said it would need to be activated after you owned it. Why do you keep responding to me as if I told you you don't need to activate through iTunes? I've never said anything but the exact opposite!

Yes, every iPhone has to be activated. You just don't have to worry about it every refusing to activate, no matter what SIM you have. As for whether to trust blackra1n, you probably can...but why bother? Just use PwnageTool to jailbreak your phone. Create a custom 3.1.2 firmware in expert mode and *uncheck* "Activate." At the end, when it asks if you're currently pwned, say no; PT will pwn your phone so you can install your new custom firmware. When you're done, you can activate in iTunes as usual. I've got a 32 GB 3GS with 5.11.07 that I jailbroke using PT and I love it.

Search for png optimizers. I know that punypng is one, but there are others. Try a few and see if you can get it under the 100 kb cap. Remember that the more complex the image, the larger it will be. You might want to try reducing the colorspace of your image; that can have a huge impact on size.
