My city does residential garbage pick-up daily, no sorting required. I can't imagine dealing with these rules.

KATU - Portland, OR : Boy punched unconscious by man after Rose Garden event | Local & Regional | KATU.com - Portland News

I saw something very similar about 2 months ago in a bar downtown. Three guys were sitting at the bar having a guys' weekend (old friends, apparently). Literally out of the blue, a dude walked up and punched one of them in the back of the head. The dude had a hunting knife in his belt, so I grabbed my friend and ran out of the bar. On the way out I told the bartender to call the police. They just ended up asking the dude to leave, and I watched him walk out of the bar and get away. Since then I really don't feel safe in downtown Portland, haven't been back at night.

KATU - Portland, OR : Boy, 3, shoots and kills himself while sitting in parent\'s car | Local & Regional | KATU.com - Port

Wow, this hits close to home for me since I have 2 young daughters, and I also have a concealed firearm permit. I carry my gun for self-defense and defense of my family, in the (God forbid) remote chance that an encounter requires me to draw it and discharge it. My gun is a Springfield Armory 40 caliber semi-automatic subcompact. I keep it loaded, but I do not keep a bullet chambered. To prepare the gun for firing, the slide must be pulled back all the way, then released. This requires a huge amount of gripping force and pulling force, something no child is remotely capable of. My wife can't even begin to cock this gun, heck some days I struggle with it. Owning a gun is a big deal, and I would recommend selecting a gun that has inherent safety features like mine does.

This place is great! I have gone through the "sampler" training thing they have several times. It's $50 and you get target practice on a range, then the scenarios. Huge eye opener for how cops have to make split second decisions with very little data, no time to think through everything, and terrible consequences for a wrong decision.

Sounds like you'd prefer a government-controlled media. The media isn't a tool of law enforcement to assist with investigations. It consists of private enterprises who attempt to inform/entertain us about issues that we might find interesting. JOURNALISTIC FREEDOM IS A REAL B*TCH, AIN'T IT??

The question that it comes down to is this: who do children belong to? I believe they are property of the parents, not in the sense of an object, but more in terms of who has the final authority and responsibility. Our government (I guess that means the majority of us) seems to believe that children are property of the state, and are leased to parents under an agreement that can be revoked at any time. If that situation happened to me it would honestly cause me to move out of the country.

KATU - Portland, OR : Child pulled from school after gay student-teacher returns | Beaverton News

The teacher had several options available to him when answering that question. For years before I was married I was asked that question all the time. If it wasn't a person I knew well, I usually said "well, it just hasn't happened for me yet, but maybe someday." The teacher is young and fresh from the college environment where you can say anything you want. It's not about being gay or free speech or civil rights; it's about learning how to talk to a fourth grader. I guarantee he has given some thought to how to converse with kids after this.

This was so heartbreaking. My cousin and her family happened to be there at the time. She sat with the mother for several hours while her husband attempted CPR on the little girl, and prayed and cried with her the whole time. My cousin is one of the most empathetic and compassionate people I know, and I am thankful that that poor sweet mom had that support as she experienced the worst event in her life.

So this law protects women from "sophisticated and slick-tongued criminals who would lead innocent victims astray, at the unbearable price of the sanctity of their bodies and souls", huh? This woman approaches this dude looking for some action, and 30 minutes later they are bumping uglies in a stairwell? Something tells me that she isn't exactly an innocent victim, and that she isn't especially concerned about the sanctity of her body and soul.

KATU - Portland, OR : Portland\'s Delta gamble pays off | KATU.com - Breaking News, Sports, Traffic and Weather - Portland

I fly regularly to Bangkok, but switched several years ago from PDX to SEA as the departure point. Also switched from Northwest (Delta) to an non-US based carrier - Korean or Eva Air. Delta changed aircraft on the PDX-NRT route from the luxurious A330 to the old, spartan 767 with no in-flight entertainment. Once you get used to AVOD (audio video on demand), it's hard to fly 11 hours without it. The service on US-based airlines' international routes is horrible. The flight attendants are surly, easily angered or offended, and during the non-service portions of the flights (their "breaks") they get very loud as they hoop and holler with each other in the galleys. Try an Asian airline - you will be absolutely spoiled.
