Longmont Times-Call : Longmont Times Call: Breaking News, Sports, Weather, Traffic - Longmont Times-Call

I guess if I were really interested in living in that area (which I am not, based on that price) I would probably do more research than sit in my car and observe air traffic. My concern would not just be what the planes are doing on one particular day, but what they will be doing in ten years when I want to sell. I also think $350k for 700 sq ft is a bit overpriced (I assume it's worded poorly) and if you want a $350k new build I would look at the homes over on Francis (I think near 15th). I am not an expert but have been casually following the housing market in Longmont for a couple of years and I wouldn't pay $350k for a house I wasn't planning on dying in. It seems like they barely retain their value and sometimes are selling for less than purchased, even if you are looking in the $200k range.

Actually, for many women, birth control does prevent a condition that could be financially devastating. Birth control is the only treatment used for several reproductive disorders including PCOS and endometriosis - both of which can result in very expensive surgeries and years of pain for women. Being on hormonal birth control helps treat both so that surgery can be avoided.

What scientific evidence exists that bible camp would qualify as mental health therapy or that religious cures for gay people are effective? There is plenty of evidence that birth control is used for medical reasons outside of pregnancy prevention, but insurance will still refuse to pay for it. And these religious organizations would still deny coverage for birth control to women who take it for health reasons - endometriosis, cysts, etc - even though it is a valid (and in some cases, the only available) treatment.

Longmont Times-Call : Poll: In-state tuition for undocumented students - Longmont Times-Call

1. being documented/undocumented is regarding being documented as a legal immigrant by the government. It's not about having fake documents. 2. Every discussion I have seen about allowing undocumented immigrants in-state tuition also states that they must live in the state for some number of years (between 3-5 typically) or have graduated from a Colorado high school, so no, undocumented students from other states would not also qualify. 3. Since the students have to be residents of the state in order to receive in-state tuition, students who now pay out-of-state tuition now would probably not have a good case for discrimination.

Not everyone has access to the mayor as you do. After reading his response to the reporter, I, as a member of the community, would not feel comfortable calling him and asking him about the subject. Perhaps PJ Shields could comment to let people know about the apology.

And you purport to only be interested in seeing Longmont voting numbers rise (on your VoteLongmont blog) - yet, when people don't agree with you, you decide that they are a "wasted vote". You assumed that because I disagreed with your definition of non-partisanship regarding blogs, that I was voting against your friend, Mayor Baum. You assume that because I am a liberal, I have something against Mayor Baum, and that because I follow FRL on twitter, I must support their whole "Bauming Longmont" campaign. I don't, and I actually respected his campaign for not attacking candidates (that I saw anywhere). You stated that I was wasting my vote, and you did it under the name of an organization that (again) claims to be non-partisan and only interested in increasing the number of people at the polls. That increase should include people who disagree with your personal political beliefs. Why am I discussing this? because I DO believe that the Mayor's ethics are important in an election. I'm sorry if you didn't understand that response when I gave it earlier. Refusing to pay the bill for damage caused by his pets shows a lack of ethics. Blaming the judge, blaming the HOA, blaming the victim, these also contribute to my feeling. Perhaps this was a one-time event, something that occurred between people who already disliked each other. I don't know. As a member of this community, I am allowed to contribute my opinion regarding this issue, regardless of your feeling that this article counts as a "personal attack". I would have the same opinion if this were any other candidate, liberal or conservative. This behavior makes me question how he treats others in his job as an official representative of Longmont. I think that you, being friends with Mayor Baum, have a conflict of interest with the Vote Longmont "organization". This conflict doesn't stop you from posting your opinions, so why should my ideologies prevent me from also weighing in? I'm not going to continue arguing this subject with you. You have an interest in seeing your friend succeed. I am sure he is a good friend to you and your family. I would defend my friends if I felt they were being personally attacked. However, my comments are not personal against Mayor Baum. Prior to this, I don't believe that I have ever said anything negative against him. I will not cry or be angry if he is re-elected. I think he really does have the best interests of the community at heart, despite what I hope is just an ethical lapse.

Bridgette, are you seriously saying that you believe that the mayor acted appropriately? His ethics are definitely something that voters have the right to know about, and this event is about the community. You agree with his veiled threats against the reporter?

The article says that this was originally an email from the victim to the blog owner. He was probably inviting the blog owner to discuss it more in depth. Further, I don't know the exact date that the article was written (I believe he said June) or the exact date the settlement was paid. It could be that after a year the victim was upset about not being paid, and did want publicity against the Mayor. I don't doubt that the timing of the blog entry itself was political, but they had been trying to get payment for her injuries for a year at that point.

If the victim were just trying to attack the mayor, he would have tried to get it publicized by TC last year. Instead he quietly takes the case to small claims court, where it was judged only 5 months ago, and he states that he wrote the "article" shortly after that. He didn't choose when it would be published.

Forcing the victims to sue him in small claims court doesn't speak very well to Baum's ethics. Threatening TC with "this is going to cost you"? This wasn't solved a year ago, it was only judged on May of this year, because Baum refused to take responsibility for his (or his wife's) dogs. If he had paid, the story would have had no traction - instead he blames his HOA for the break in his fence and the victim for "provoking" the attack by trying to pick up her dog so that it wouldn't be killed.
