You'll need to restore to the official 3.0, then PwnageTool to 3.1.2 then use Ultrasn0w.

It might be something to do with custom APN settings. Do you have to re-input them in every update?

You *do* realise that your rep is almost the same as dhlizard's, right? By you rationale, you are a no-life loser as well. And you bumped a 1-day-old thread just to flame another user. For what? Because you want to have a fight on the Internet with someone? Maybe dhlizard really did zing you (by the way, I'll be using that word in everyday speech now). :O As for calling him (/her?) a snob, isn't that a bit rich? I mean come on; who's the one trying to act all high and mighty on this blog? It's not dhlizard; it's you. If you want to have petty fights with people on the Internet, go to 4chan or something. Keep it off this great blog. I'm done.

Assuming you don't have the latest iBoot, you should be able to restore to 3.0, jailbreak with Redsn0w, and then run PwnageTool.

I would suggest paying a few dollars, and getting PkgBackup. It works A LOT better than either Appbackup or APTbackup. Plus it backs up with your contacts, so you don't actually have to restore your previous phone settings (possibly causing problems with jailbroken phones). And before anyone says it: No, I didn't get paid to say this.

Just because I'm curious: When you turn your phone off, then back on, you still keep all jailbreak apps and settings, correct?

Just upgrade to the official 3.0(.1), run Redsn0w, and install Ultrasn0w, and you're good to go. Also, do NOT restore from a backup.

You can jailbreak it. You just need to restore to 3.0, run Redsn0w to jailbreak it, then upgrade to your jailbroken custom 3.1.2 firmware.

Assuming your relative can and will unlock it for you, then yes, you can. The baseband won't matter then. As for Skype, try using 3G Unrestrictor. It costs about two bucks but lets you use Skype (and any app that requires you be on WiFi, not 3G) on your 3G network.

The way I understand it, you should be fine restoring a jailbroken backup, as long as it is to a jailbroken phone - they don't work well with non-jailbroken phones.

No, there are not any Mac users who can do that here. No firmwares will be posted here, and if they are they will be taken down. The reason this is, is because they are illegal. We don't want to give Apple any reason to legally bother the Dev Team. You can find plenty on the Internet, Google is your friend, et cetera, et cetera.
