Instead of careing for those in our neighborhoods who are less fortunate, we turn that responsibility over to the government. Every time we do this, we increase the power of the government, and decrease our own power. And the more we decrease our own power, governments fear us less. . There are millions of examples in the country where local people had a vision, others caught the vision and made it happen. The recent sand bagging operation in Fargo is an example. They did not abdicate the responsibility to the government, FEMA or anyone else. They took it upon themselves. Free clinics, housing for abused women, Salvation Army, and more are local initiatives where people took responsibility for what was happening in their community and did something about it.
