Thanks for your reply. Oh my, do you mean jailbreaking then using redsn0w will not work for this? I should have mentioned that jailbreaking is ok too. Is it due to the 05.16.05 baseband?

Greetings everyone, I have an iPhone 3GS (MB718LL) running 5.0.1 (9A405) with baseband 05.16.05. My goal is to have this phone sim lock free. What is the best recommended unlock procedure for what I am currently running? Thanks in advance =) thecryof

I'm just worried I'll brick the device if I use the wrong firmware. So, the 3G 4.2.1 IPSW file from that link above will be OK to use? I guess afterwards I will need to JB again right?

Greetings, I have an iPhone 3G model MB499LL which currently has iOS 4.0.1 (8A306) and baseband 05.13.04. It has been unlocked using ultrasn0w. I would like to upgrade to 4.2.1, is this a safe bet and where can I get the correct IPSW file? Thanks for your time, Michael

I have a 3G which has never been unlocked nor jailbroken currently with firmware 3.1.3. I would like to have it unlocked. In this case, what's the best solution for me?

Just the standard upgrade to the new firmware, like you normally would. I was going to get rid of the phone, so I wanted to make sure to wipe everything. Also when running blackra1n I did not have any SIM card installed.

If it matters at all, when I upgraded to firmware 3.1.2 I did this while in DFU mode.

Something small to report. On my home WiFi YouTube and the Web work fine, but at my local Starbucks using their free WiFi these do not work, the Stock App and Weather App work fine though. No other issues to report at this point.

After installing blackra1n (Jailbreak) you can install Cydia over WiFi. There will be an app icon for blackra1n on your iPhone from which to do this.

I'd like to report that I have (so it seems) successfully ran this Jailbreak and Unlock procedure. I have the T-Mobile (USA) carrier logo, YouTube is working at this very moment and so is my WiFi. My iPhone has version 3.1.2 (7D11) with Modem Firmware 05.11.07. I'll report back with any problems. Thank you :-)

Successful run here on XP with a 2G on 3.0. Everything works as it should, so far anyway, will report if I notice anything. I don't need Cydia, so I just chose to unlock.
