Race Relations Project : What about people who can only "afford hard work"?

Most people think that immigrants are a big problem to the economy and the United States in general but they are far from right. Immigrants help the economy by taking the jobs that are not wanted by anyone else. They work hard for low wages to help support their family. They have gone through a lot while moving to the United States and still suffer from discrimination and segregation. Immigrants have to learn a new language, adapt to a new culture, and start over their lives. Just once, imagine yourself, quitting your job and leaving your family. Selling all your belongings, just so you can afford an airplane ticket. After all that hard work, you finally move to a country where you are searching for hope and freedom but instead you are mistreated and judged by your accent or color, how would you feel?

Race Relations Project : Isn't migration conflict inevitable?

We are all the same. Immigrants, legal or not, deserve the same rights as everyone else. Many immigrants argue that the United States was found and built by immigrants but those who claim respect have no voice. Most people have no idea how hard it is to move to another country. Learning a new language and adapting to a new culture are one o the hardest obstacles one can face. I believe that experiencing immigration is the only way for people to understand what immigrants go through. Watching your parents quit their jobs, sell all their belongings and leave the rest of their family can be an amazing understanding of how determined people are to have a better life. Immigrants move to the United States hoping they are able to make money and have more freedom. But they receive a lot more than that

Race Relations Project : What about health care?

I believe that you have to experience immigration, as I have, to have a slight right of judgment. Unfortunately, we cannot choose where to be born. Some countries have endless wars and some do not have enough colleges to educate half their population. Some do not have enough jobs and some have less freedom than they would in an American prison. The United States is full of resources, power and opportunities. It has endless jobs and a valued economy. Immigrants simply move to the United States of America to have a better life and earn a better way of living. I believe that people should have the freedom to immigrate to the United States because they help the economy and deserve the same opportunities as those born in the United States. . A frequent dispute among those opposing further immigration is that immigrants seize U.S. jobs that are needed by American citizens. Surprisingly, many argue that immigrants are ruining the economy by taking such jobs for lower wages than Americans would. But most immigrants fill low skill jobs that are not wanted by Americans, jobs that are looked down upon. Immigrants do what they can to survive and help their families, and by doing so they help the economy in a many ways. More workers means more output. Julian L. Simon, author of The Economic Consequences of Immigration, states, “Immigration does not exacerbate unemployment ... Immigrants not only take jobs, but also create them. Their purchases increase the demand for labor, leading to new hires roughly equal in number to the immigrant workers.” More people means more consumers spending money on food, rent, and a range of necessities and luxuries that spur production and create jobs elsewhere. Opponents of immigration fail to recognize these secondary effects of immigrant employment. They focus only on the original taking of jobs without accounting for job creation and economic growth. If these factors are taken into account, it becomes clear that immigrants actually inject much-needed support and vigor into the economy. If the United States is having economy trouble than they should look elsewhere before they blame immigrants. Currently, the government is spending $8 billion per month on the continuing occupation of Iraq (www.speaker.gov). Immigrants, legal or not, do not harm the economy in any way, they improve it. There are many immigrants who successfully graduate college and pursue a career. There are many immigrants who agree to work really hard for such a little money to feed their family. And most importantly, there are many immigrants who would work day and night to save money for their kids to go to college, so they can achieve what their parents could not. The economy is corrupted by many things and immigration is not one of them. According to office of national drug control budget records, The U.S. federal government spent over $19 billion dollars on the war on drugs while the state spends another $30 million.(www.whitehousedrugpolicy.gov) Fixing the economy does not have to mean killing more people at the Mexican border, we just simply need to have more rational actions. Immigrants take the low skill jobs that pay low wages. They pay taxes, rent houses, buy car insurance and groceries just like everyone else. How can they possibly hurt the economy? Some might argue that immigrant workers might raise American taxes using welfare and other programs to help them financially. But it is the fact that Americans also pay hundreds of dollars to support war, which always puzzles me, who would rather choose to support killing people instead of helping others start a life?

Race Relations Project : Women

I get that you think that all women are beautiful, but what about men, do you think they are all beautiful, doesn’t matter what race or color? , humans are automatically attracted to certain things, certain people and certain races (in some cases), it is “normal” to think someone is attracted and another is not. I don’t get why people think some are mean because you make a comment about someone being unattractive or such. People have different taste in a lot of things, no need to deny it. I wish I knew someone who thinks that all people are beautiful and all races are beautiful in their way, it would be a different world.

Race Relations Project : The tyranny of radical Muslims...

I get that not all Muslims are terrorists, but most terrorists are Muslim. The problem is that some Muslims interpret the Quran in a different way, concluding that they need to stop corruption in the world and tell everyone about the Islamic religion. I know that a lot of Muslims don’t approve with that ad would rather live peacefully instead, just like in Christianity some blow up abortion clinics and some are against it. That how It is in all religions I am sure, people interpret their holy bible in different ways. I know that most Muslims are peaceful people but Osama Ben laden and the terrorist attacks don’t help at all.

Race Relations Project : Christian Invaders - the turnaround

I have always looked at this issue the same way, in fact my view is much deeper than that, only because I know why terrorists are terrorists, I know how Muslims thinks and why some of them become terrorists. The only reason I know the way Middle Eastern people is because I am one of them, although I am Christian so I don’t have the hate that some Muslims have for the United States of America. Even before the Iraq began, the Middle East was still in conflict was the United States; it is been that way for many years. The Middle East has natural resources, and the United States has power and money, and each side thinks the other doesn’t deserve what they have. You see the only reason Muslims hate the United States is it represents “corruption”. I am sure religious Muslims and the united states have a different definition of corruption. The majority of the United States has people having sex before marriage, they also started allowing gay marriage, and they have alcohol and drugs everywhere. I am sure most of you reading this agree on what corruption is, but the United States believes in “freedom”, you do whatever you want, dress however, and act however you want. The Middle East on the other hand believes that everyone should cover their body; they also believe that no one should do drugs or drink alcohol that’s why in almost every Muslim country alcohol is illegal and of course we all know how “appropriate” Muslims dress. The way Muslims view the rest of the world is as corrupted people, and most of the powerful countries in the world are predominantly Christians, like the United States, Canada and most of Europe, so they conclude that all Christians are corrupted. I am from Egypt so I can only tell you about the experiences I have, doesn’t mean every Muslim country is that way. Well anyway, in Egypt, there is always a battle between Christians and Muslims. Egypt has only 9 percent Christians, and what Muslims want to do is make it a Muslim country. There is always killing going, there is always war between both religions, there is discrimination while trying to get jobs and such, it is almost like the relationship between black and white people here, except the predominate party has much more power. Every religion think they are right and others are wrong but Muslims believe that in the Quran it says that you have to stop corruption and you will get rewarded at the end, so they actually do something about it, they think that if you help stop corruption (which is supposably exists in every other religion but Islam) you will get rewarded.

Race Relations Project : This is totally off the hook

First of all most people already know about this hential Asian drawings or some people call it porn, is not a new issue in life and I bet you a lot of rape cases were based on that game because if imagination comes to the point where people see movies about forced rape then they would find it natural to think that way and eventually act upon their thoughts, but that’s not the only problem, real porn probably has acting rape as well because obviously it attracts an audience of sickos who like that kind of thing, and we are doing nothing about either one because not even one rape case has been traced back to a movie because people don’t psychologically think they are doing it because they saw it in a movie or played it in a game.

The thing is there is no steps, there is nothing we can do about it, the whole world has to stop buying chocolate so the slaves might be free , and even then they will try to find a different business so the slaves can work on. I mean imagine if the whole world stops eating chocolate and the slave owner has 100 some slaves that need to be useful, he will probably find something else for them, not even that, he would use them for a lot of things, there is obviously no solution unless we all act together which is impossible.

Race Relations Project : I really want to know also...

This class is very eye opening for me; I actually took sociology 100 which was the best class ever. Although I have learned a lot from this class, some information seem inaccurate. There is a lot of racism in the world; we all know that, but most information provided in class seems to have no facts behind it. The thing that surprised me the most was the whole situation with modern slavery, I still cannot believe it. Everything I learned is so horrible and yet there is nothing to be done about it. I really wish I can do anything about it, but it is so profitable and no one is going to care as long as it is not harming them, for example if the united states had been affected by modern slavery in anyway. There would be a war right now to stop slavery. It’s all about degrees of relation; no one is going to care about anything unless they can benefit from its outcome. Sadly, no one is going to personally benefit from the outcome that is beside the poor families of those people. Imagine if this information was available to everyone then maybe someone will eventually do something about it, but those who write books about slavery sell it for expensive price so they can make money, everyone wants to benefit from everything. Either way I don’t agree with Sam Richard blaming us for slavery, telling us that eating chocolate is like eating someone’s flesh. It doesn’t make sense, we pay for our food, it is not my fault that the middle man gets their profit from slaves, even if we buy the expensive food that is supposed to be from a real company that doesn’t profit from slavery then they will become big and start having more demand for whatever they are selling and eventually they will start hiring slaves across the world and be just like all the other companies. It is not our fault that they system is corrupted, it is a very sad thing that is going on across the world right now, but there is nothing we can do. There is nothing I can do, I am just a small spec in this big world, this global issue needs to be know across the world so we can do something about it. We all need to work together to fix that because one person CANT make a different in this situation , we have to help one country at a time to get rid of this horrible problem, and I really hope that something is done soon enough because people’s lives are ruined and their futures are destroyed to benefit others, i its really not fair.

Race itself is a complicated issues, what makes it more complicated is multicultural people,I personally think that we are all multicultured, no one is a 100 percent of one race, and iam not going to even try to define what a race is because that itself is much more complicated, if people did not think of other races with stereotypes, if they didn’t look down at other races then race wouldn’t be a problem anymore , people want to be better than others that’s why they define races and have stereotypes for other races. We need to realize that we are all the same and there is no such a thing as racee

Its all about how people view races, the whole reason why medical places care so much about hiring different races is because it is a business. The business they have obviously cares about how much they make and need people to view them in a good way so they can do business with them, the way the world views people today is that a community that have a lot of black people is a less fortunate one, and a lot of white people in a community is usually a rich community. It is how the world views everyone else is what matters, so that’s how it works.

Race Relations Project : Nothing About the Census is Easy

Wow, this video is awesome, do you see how they brought people from different cultures to comment on the matter, they have white, African American and a Latina. So no one would hold it against them that they didn’t think of Spanish, black or whatever, but before that, they are trying to make it seem like a bigger deal than what it is, I mean come on, I get that old fashion people think of the word as an offensive term, but all it was a word to refer to black people. Black people were looked down upon; the term itself was not offensive, if they were refereed to as African American then that world would have been frowned upon just as the world Negro is right now. everyone wants to be politically correct and not be racist, but it is so hard to satisfy everyone. Some people don’t care about being called negro, some are offended. Some people don’t care about being called African American , some are offended. No one know to call whom what. Doesn’t matter what word people use to call others, some are still going to be offended. The fact that we categorize people in different races and most people don’t like that, for example I am middle eastern and I am also in Africa so I am African American , middle easter and iam also categorized white, so what am I, am I a middle eastern when there is terrorism is being questioned? Am I African when I start playing sports or am I white when. .. well I am never stereotyped as a white person, because everyone wants to think that you have to look white to be white, but when it comes to anything else you race will be traced thousands of years ago even though you don’t look like that race. It never stops with this race relation, everyone has a different opinion and everyone has a different view, but the fact that we categorized humans in different races is the problem here. It has been thousands of years with this race debate; it is never going to end. The comments they showed in the video, seemed to be a series of a bunch of smart / ethnically mixed people who knew exactly what to say regarding the race matter, but if you ask a random white person about the whole problem of having negro in the census they would probably have no comment, if anything they would have an ignorant comment. People need to understand racism before people try to talk about it ,and before people try to categorize races. It is going to be a long long time before the racism issue is going to be over.

I really don’t think that girls having a period is a big deal, as a matter of fact, I think it is beautiful, it is essential to reproduction, how can that be bad?. And yes men would be much more proud to have a period than women would, think about it, men are proud of everything they have, just because it is a man’s world. I was never disgusted by it, it is a natural process, I am sure it can get very annoying so I am glad men don’t have it, because otherwise men would be even more disguising than they are now, I bet you we wouldn’t even buy tampons, we have special underwear made for our special time of the month.

Race Relations Project : Those Dolls Say Alot About Who We Are

The video a girl like me was very sad. I have no doubt that every colored person in soc 119 class related to all these kids, It is a matter of time before black and colored people realize how they are viewed to the world, it is a matter of time before they see how little they are to the rest of the world, how they are looked down at by everyone else. It is a feeling that no one else can ever understand unless they experience it themselves. It is an unforgettable time. Every kid in the world remembers it, I know I do. My experience might have been different, I experienced as an immigrant coming to the United States. I am sure that if I moved from Europe I wouldn’t have even noticed any racism, but I came from Africa, it’s funny that where we are born and the color we are makes our world completely different. In the video, the baby chooses the doll that she previously said was the bad doll, the one that she did not want. The kid does not want to be what she is , she does not want to be discriminated against based on her color of skin, even if it means to have a different a color of skin. It is really sad that this kind of thinking would go through a child’s head, an innocent child. I hate the world we live in, no one is equal, and nothing is fair. About 80 percent of the kids preferred to be white, the rest probably have not been discriminated against as much , they might have been growing in a black community, there time is coming, they were also realize that no matter how hard they work and how much they do will not affect how successful they are, because the world will always discriminate against them, they will have less opportunities at getting a job or renting a place or living like a normal human being just because if the color of their skin. It I ridiculous how unfair this is, even little kids recognize it because it is everywhere, it is simply unavoidable when you are a person of color. Like Sam said, the little girl was called dirty because she was black and it does not stop there, racism will be with you until you die, as long as you are not white, your whole future will depend on your color, and there is nothing you can do about it. This world is not going to get any better; we just need to realize it sooner or later because it is not going to make a different. We will always going to be unequal.

i really think that black people say the things they say because they think that they should feel some kind of disadvantage against everyone else that is not black. as for white people, they might have this abstract thing called white guilt that makes them feel horrible for something that they have not done. either way the rudness definetly have something to do with the race of that person because if you had a lecture room full of multicultured kids, you wouldnt see any hate texts because they have nothing to hate the other for. and no matter what you do, you cant stop the hate between both races until you raise them a different way with different mentality.

i dont believe in this whole white guilt thing, i mean i really dont care what my ancestors did , it is not my fault that they had different enviorment and it is not my fault that they believed different things. how is that my problem, or anyone 's problem for that matter. no one should be responsible for the for what their ancestors have done, no one. this is an ignorant idea, why would you blame this generation for something that happened a long time ago ? we have done nothing wrong. can you seriously be foolish enough to blame someone for thier ancestors's actions , that is just as bas as being ignorant enough to be racist against someone because of the color of their skin. i mean think about it, blaming someone for slavery means it was thier fault for being born white in a white family, and thinking less of someone because of the color of their skin is just as bad because you are saying it is their fault that they were born black. what happened to this world, i have never seen so much hate, it is everywhere, and it is about culture and color and all these things that doesnt matter. the worst part is it will never stop, people will keep hating each other for being different because no one can stand it, and yes there is no such a thing as white guilt, it is just a theory, i mean why would anyone feel bad for something that they have not done. i wouldnt, what if you were born in gemany and suddenly they tell you hitler was your great grandfather, would you feel bad for all the jewish people that were murdered, i feel bad too but would you think it is somehow your fault, would you have jew guilt, i dont think so , because you have done nothing wrong, it was all hitler's fault, this whole white guilt thing is the same way. i cant imagine what you can say to convinvce me that it was my fault that all black people were slaves, but yes if i was white , i would be lucky but like you said, some people are lucky , some arent, it just how the world is and we cant do anything about it. that is just how it is, you are born with a white rich family sometimes and sometimes you are screwed and you are born with a very poor family and maybe a drunk father or a divorced parents , whatever the case is, life is unfair and there is nothing we can do about it but work hard to make it better because that is all we can do, and yes others are less fortunete but that is just how it is

Race Relations Project : Fired for a Scarf

I love how much racism this world have against Muslims, I mean they have all those wrong ideas against Muslims and how they think that whoever wears a jihab is a terrorist, this is another big problem that this world will never get over, this is the only racism that has hatred behind it which will make it harder to get rid of, what will it take to learn that not all Muslims are extremists?, I mean people need to understand the culture , they need to have a full understanding of this world and stop having unexplained hatred and racism toward everyone that is different.
