Advice for jailbreaking a 3GS 3.0.1 before upgrading?

Hi, I'd like to jailbreak my phone in a way that will allow unlocking in the future. I know I have to take certain steps after jailbreaking to save a file that would allow unlocking in the future... but am not quite clear what exactly do I need to do?

My idea is to
1. Jailbreak using latest redsn0w and the iPhone2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw file
2. What do I do to ensure future unlocking???
3. How do I upgrade to 3.1 without losing jailbreak and preserving ability to unlock in the future (because I did 2.)???

Hi, all, what would be the process to jailbreak a 3Gs running 3.0.1? It's not jailbroken nor unlocked. Also, would it be possible to store the firmware so that future unlocking will be possible?

Hi, what's the best way to make a 3GS with 3.01 compatible with Cydia? And, ideally, preserve the ability to divorce from AT&T? I know redsn0w works with 3.0.0 but not sure about 3.0.1. Thank you!
