Daily Camera.com: : Boulder councilman wants development moratorium - Boulder Daily Camera

As a resident before there was a Pearl Street Mall (yes, cars could actually drive down Pearl and park in front of the Courthouse), I'm one of those people who would like to see Boulder stay relatively unchanged. However, that's completely unrealistic. Over the years these changes have seen three colors of the Subaru Outback line the neighborhood while gone are the VW buses and Saab 99's, and new residents are not afraid of buying two adjoining lots in order to scrape and build one "eco friendly" home. Why anyone would choose to pay over a million to live above an RTD terminal or a few hundred thousand to live in a 400' studio is beyond my imagination, yet it's really none of my business. In short, the market is working and if I get too upset, I'll leave. What bothers me, and may be a worthwhile bother for most of us is when political influence and wealth trumps reasonable and long term planning in order to achieve short term success. The Holiday and Safeway argument, or all of the time and effort to build the St Julien might be seen as the beginning of what we as a community are facing today.

Daily Camera.com: : CU women\'s basketball: Buffs hold off TCU in WNIT opener - Boulder Daily Camera

Good game from the Buffs. The team played like a team, feeding Smith when she was hot in the first half and watching for Swan down the stretch. The guards also had a good game by getting the ball to the hot shooter or taking the open shot and using the clock. The officials may consider donating half of their paycheck and writing a letter of apology to both teams for their bone headed calls in the second half. It's amazing how a crew can do such a good job of managing a game in the first half and come out after the break and suddenly want to control the game with one inconsistent call after another that essentially takes both teams out of any rhythm for minutes at a time.

Daily Camera.com: : New general manager takes helm of Trident cafe, part of \'old Boulder\' - Boulder Daily Camera

There are a lot of people in Boulder who have way too much time on their hands and the Trident is one of the places they hang out for hours on end. The owners have a fine line to walk by not pi**ing off the regulars while attempting to rotate enough folks through the space in order to reap a nice financial reward. I gave up on the place years ago for the same reason a few friends keep going back, the social scene.

Daily Camera.com: : Eldora Mountain Resort restores senior ski passes - Boulder Daily Camera

The same thing happened to me last year at Winter Park, so it's a risk that we all take. You probably won't last at any Colorado resort since they all follow the same procedure.

Daily Camera.com: : Eldora facing flurry of complaints about pass programs - Boulder Daily Camera

Poorly written article, full of opinion and just one fact...the price of the new passes. Perhaps Mitchell has a bone to pick about the new pass? How 'bout some history? How many times has the ski area come within a breath of closing and been pulled back from death by some marketing idea? Look, Eldora has operated on a shoe string budget for years. Unlike the big resorts to our west, the only family associated with Eldora who was able to build a castle is the Tell Ertl family. As the only remaining Front Range area, Eldora occasionally throws the baby out with the bath water and starts again. It's too bad Eldora is leaving the Epic pass after just one year as this was the only reason I had to make the purchase. Perhaps Eldora will decide to join up with Winter Park and Copper in the future, which would be a definite plus for me.

Daily Camera.com: : Colorado women\'s basketball: Buffs falter down stretch vs. Cal - Boulder Daily Camera

This team has the talent and skill to compete with any team in the conference and could easily be undefeated if not for one last piece of the puzzle their coaches are carefully installing. A Killer Instinct. Last night Cal was a defeated group with eight minutes left in the second half. Boyd's ego had sufficiently deflated and was on the verge of her fourth foul. Two other Cal players were hanging their heads. Despite the poor officiating by Melissa Barlow, the Buffs continued to build their second ten point lead yet refused to stick the fork into the cooked Bruins. Unfortunate. The rest is now history. If you don't have a ticket to Mile High on Sunday, bring your radio and headset to Coors and watch the Buffs take on Stanford. At some point this team is going to have a break out game and Sunday is a good time to fry a little Cardinal.

The great aspect to this team is how they work and talk together on and off the court. Four or five players have decided to grow out of Chucky's shadow and are doing great. This is a tribute to all of the individual work by the players and their coaches, who are perhaps one of the best group of coaches in the conference if not the country.

Daily Camera.com: : Almost 13 years later, CU-Boulder\'s record $250M gift slow to reach fruition - Boulder Daily Camera

It would be interesting to learn whether CU has pressed the Coleman's as much as the legal department has pressed the estates of people who willed money to the university. One estate had to liquidate several annuities early in order to pay off the university and then was threatened with legal action because CU was paid 95% of the gift. Duh.

One aspect that hasn't been mentioned is that over Lappe's tenure the freshmen class is getting better each year. Of course Huggins played the first few games so in a way her game this year could be compared to Arielle's start last year as a red shirt. Zoe and Halley are holding their own against the competition and are certainly not afraid to shoot, screen, or drive the lane. If you're not making plans to get season tickets or at least cheer at a few games during the season you are going to be missing some great basketball.

Buffzone.com: CU sports from the Daily Camera : Scott: No deal with DirecTV this year - Buffzone

Forget the video distributors, there are problems with Comcast, Dish and Direct in one way or another for a lot of fans. How about providing internet access to games? I have Comcast yet when I'm away from home the internet is my ONLY avenue for watching the Buffs which means I am listening to KOA. Granted KOA is a nice option with two of the best game callers and the best sideline reporter in the business, yet pictures are worth a thousand words. Even when I'm home, I would prefer to watch a video stream of CU soccer or volleyball than a televised game of a Washington/Cal contest. Scott keeps saying the PAC 12 Network is so great, well I suggest he prove it by providing access to content even if it is through my Buff Club account.

Buffzone.com: CU sports from the Daily Camera : Colorado women\'s soccer: Buffs fall to No. 2 UCLA in home finale - Buffzone

Anyone who missed the soccer team this year at home missed a chance to see a program that has improved not only from last year yet through this season as well. UCLA is a very good team and CU had a good game plan with great execution through most of the game. Unfortunately patience is key virtue for the Bruins. It would be a nice problem to have if Rick George had to find more bleacher seating for fans next season.

Buffzone.com: CU sports from the Daily Camera : Howell: Questionable decisions bury Buffs - Buffzone

It's good to see these posts, which call into question Howell's skill as a sports writer more than MacIntyre's skill as a coach. I agree with both calls and also agree with Mac's abbreviated response in that execution was the problem on not only these two plays yet for most of the game at the team's inability to contain the quarterback. He is changing the culture in much the same way that Mac I forced change on a middle of the road program back in the 80's. Change is a risky business and the difference in risky moves taken last year versus the current season is that the team seems to be responding in a positive way. As mentioned above, the penalty game is improving and play at specific positions such as quarterback is also on the mend. When all of the receivers learn to drive to the catch the passing game will also be more consistent.
