What do you think about the Saturn Virtua Stick? It's my first (and only) arcade stick, and I think it's OK if kinda light. Then again, I suck at fighting games so it matters neither way lolz

I like the idea of Kill Screen. It kind of sounds like some of the more retrospective bits of Edge magazine, like Time Extend. I'd be willing to try it out, but for $35 for one issue, it's pretty expensive!

Rensa (on the forums) made a good point. Games can be an art form; but that doesn't mean that all games are art. Likewise, he quoted Ebert who said the same of movies: he considered it an art form, but not all movies are art.

I'm uncertain about this. While having a bigger screen is a great option, I relish portability. For me, I'm willing to give up screen real estate for something that is easier to carry around. However... Lately alot of my handheld gaming is more along the lines of the DSi XLs calling card: I play it before I go to bed, around the house - but not outside of the house! So In that case, where I don't have to carry it around, it's actually not a bad idea. The problem with handhelds is that they have to satisfy a variety of different needs and situations. Design for portable electronics is much harder than home electronics IMO because you have to strike that balance between portability and usability. The thing is, could Nintendo really do a "3DS" and a "3DS XL" at launch to satisfy the two markets?

I've never made a Mara in any of the SMT games :( And good on Atlus! Those DS sales are incredible given the normal sales volumes of Atlus games.

Somewhat in line with other reviews. However, tri-Ace games have always been a little light on story. I look forward to getting this game just because the combat sounds nuts.

Consider the Dreamcast era though. Sega was firing on all cylinders: anything that company made was gold. Even pre-merger Sega was doing great with Panzer Dragoon Orta, JSRF, VF4, Sega GT 2002, etc. Post-merger? The only Sega games I'd consider to hold a candle to the DC era games would be the Yakuza games, Valkyria Chronicles and Sonic Rush.

I feel the Kalinske hate is a bit unwarranted. Yes, the Saturn failed HARD, but Nakayama wasn't making the decisions for the right market. He made the right decisions for the Japanese market, as proven by the console's unusually long lifespan there compared to the American and European shelf life of the system, but obviously it wasn't right for anywhere else. Even in 1996, a year after the PS1 and Saturn came out, the Super NES still outsold them both; Sega could have had part of that market had Nakayama not cancelled the Genesis and other add-ons. I think Kalinske was trying get on board with Saturn - as proven by the push for the early launch - but obviously at that point he was just following orders. Though, 32X was shit. No way around that. Honestly, I blame no one for the Saturn except Nakayama. Bernie Stolar gets a similar amount of hate for the wrong reasons too.

I hear you man. A couple years ago I was fat as hell, didn't look at what I ate. Now I'm alot slimmer and actually normal! I did find, however, that as I became more fit I played less games though. However I think I can attribute this to the time period in my life: I was just getting into second year of university, and it felt more justified to spend time exercising that playing games.

I love the PS2 boot screen. Sony always had great boot screens (Old PS3 intro FTW!!!), but the PS2 one was the first that had this post-modernist edge. As much as I like my Saturn, I was never really too fond of the boot screen. I dunno, I like my things more...timeless. It's just feels like a cheap grasp for the graphics whores of the 90's that doesn't stand up today. The Dreamcast and various Genesis boot screens were much better efforts from Sega, IMO.

I agree with what you're saying, though Japanese games have taken Western themes before - the Shin Megami Tensei games, for example, with their JRPG gameplay sprinkled with WRPG story progression (to a degree).
