It's got nothing to do with the kids. The teachers in my district are highly paid, highly compensated yet our schools are the worst in our county. It is extremely infuriating! I wonder what it's going to take to get our parents and communities enraged enough to put the effort into fighting for our kids like the unions are fighting for bargaining rights, benefits, and tenure. I remember when Gov. Schwarzenegger fought to get tenure extended to 4 or 6 years from the current 2 years that is in CA now and it got completely shot down. The unions and tenure force teachers to perform to the average, it encourages no one to teach to their best. Thank you Dana for trying to do what you can to get this conversation out in the public.
