Ben Bien: a 10 Year Project in Creative and Intellectual Self-Development » {Home} : Daily Philosophy for the 30th of September 2008

Ben, your writing has improved dramatically I should say. Not in the sense that its content is superior, but rather that its more structurally sound, organized, and well formed. The ideas are logically presented, but that does not increase the complexity as it often times can and does with other works. The piece is good motivation for me, thanks. On another note, intense debate is pretty insane huh! I know you told me about disqus but I went with intensedebate because the website had super simple demo videos and everything looked so "easy". It also said you could put it on any page (non blog) which disqus probably does too but its hard ot find answers on their site. I am happy with intense debate though, looks and functions great!

Tastyseed : Tastyeed Web Development Tutorial : Elgg 1.0 Social Networking

Yes, just edit, or add to the $dashboard_handler array as well as the $dashboard_column array . If you are unfamiliar with arrays have a look here: http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.array.php Lastly, there are currently only 4 available widgets that work on the dashboard, and they are all listed in the instructions document. Trying to add other widgets will not work. I'm sure elgg will come out with more dashboard widgets in the future though.

Sergio, if you have installed the plugin @ root/mod/ and you are able to enable the plugin via user admin, then you don't technically need to edit anything. The plugin should work as there are already values set. 3 widgets should load on the user profile, and 3 on the dashboard. Please note that the widgets are added to all NEW USERS only. This does not add widgets to users who already have an account. So test adding and verifying a new user via the "register.php" page. It should work.

Hi guys, seems that the new version being offered by elgg fixes some of these problems, and my rather quick hack no longer works. Haven't had time to re-download the new core, and see what's up, I imagine its as Ben Werdmuller recommended - to use the events in elgg, I just need to figure this out and then I'll post an updated and hopefully correct version

Oh Wow! You just blew my mind. Not only do I appreciate your response and advice from the developer himself, but the events system is insane! The wiki is a little hard to navigate, but I've never been one to sit around waiting. Thanks for all your work, guess I'm learning about events today!
