I really feel that we need to work within the framework of our current 2 party system to make the necessary changes. Currently I see the Republican party as being the one most likely to make the necessary changes to embrace the 9-12 concept. Creating an independent movement outside of a major party will only further segment a vote. We need to replace republicans (in name only; like Snow, & Spector) with republicans who will embrace and model the 9-12 principles and values.
I became a corporate casualty in 2008 as a result of this downturn. I've spent ~29 years in the high-tech industry and now find it nearly impossible to return to that industry without taking an incredible cut in earning potential. I still believe strongly in free market capitalism. So, I've opted to start my own consulting company. Given the current economy--it is off to a rather slow start, but I'd rather work for myself than 'give away' skills it has cost me a great deal of time, money and sweat equity to develop. I opted to do this because I do still believe in this country--but I have serous doubts about our current government.
I'm ex-Navy, an electrical engineer and an Information Technology Architect. Being grounded in values and principles has been a part of my DNA. But though these values and principles seem like a common sense "guidepost to live by" it is very difficult to convince those who are addicted socialism to convert to "better living". It is simply so much easier for them to wait for the next installment to be paid to them.
Principles and values were things we once learned as children. But sadly today that all too often is not the case. I've served on boards of public education for 14 years and I can tell you that our state of public education is in shambles. In part the blame should go to the educational system, but blame also belongs with the parents and guardians of the children--who demonstrate a greater sense of "entitlement" than "work ethic".
We can take this country back, and establish a strong sense of national pride which will endure any crisis, but we must demand better from our elected officials. I really commend Glenn for spring boarding this effort!
