High school is simply an awkward time for many people. A "phase", so to speak. However, I do think you're right to a certain extent. I was a dork in middle school, but I was able to get over it all. I inwardly forgave the people who'd been jerks to me, and I was able to shrug off the bad times I'd had in middle school and just remember the good times. And some people like Bill Maher, perhaps, just remain bitter and, therefore are never really able to grow up.
