Big Hollywood : 'The Lorax' Review: Eco-Hypocrisy Leavened By Whimsical Creatures

Too bad. This is a missed opportunity to teach to the notion of the Tragedy of the Commons. As long as no one owns a resource there is no incentive to conserve it. Even better is that this story has a capitalist solution: let developers own the land producing the resource so they have no incentive to destroy it. if the town of Thneed-ville sold Trullula tree rights to the Once-ler he wouldn't have had a motive to cut them down to extinction. Because the price of the rights would take into account the perpetual value of Trullula trees, the rights would be more costly that the Once-ler would have to make the resource sustainable to cover payments to Thneed-ville. In turn, sweater prices would reflect this increased cost, and consumption would decrease, placing man in balance with nature. But in most things environmental such ideas don't make sense. In that laughable world, hope is a method and greed can be "solved" by a government program.

You're missing a key difference. A difference bigger than the degree of severity of punishment. If you can't find it, then I can't help you. George Washington had deserters hung on the Plain at West Point in plain view. I guess he was a monster too.

If there were justice in the world, assuming he's found guilty, Sandusky would be led to an open grave he dug himself. He would be cuffed and forced to kneel for the execution, and the state would hand Paterno a pistol with one round and force him to carry out the sentence, else another grave would await him. No quarter for child rapists. Ever. They must be extinguished from the earth. Those who covered it up? Try out life in PMITA prison. See how they like some payback. See what that 10-year-old went through, and the dozens more that happened after they turned a blind eye. People wonder how the Holocaust could happen. This is how it could happen. It could happen anywhere where good people stand by while evil triumphs.

Why is this so hard? People like dollar bills. The government needs to save money and use coins. How about print a little less dollar bills, and replace with dollar coins? Do this migration over 30 years. You'll realize cost savings immediately. (Unless, of course, it's fundamentally cheaper to print a bill over minting a coin. I know that assumption underlies the whole program but it should be challenged.) Actually I thought the Federal Reserve was trying to get rid of the dollar anyway.

Micromanagement was rampid when I was in during Bosnia - it didn't help that you could have a bunch of GOs and TOC weenies watching the game on the Predator drone, with a chin over every operator's shoulder. Doesn't help either when you get one shot to succeed as an officer, else kiss your chances at further command goodbye. Risk adverse can't describe half of it.
Breitbart.tv : Bush Greeted with Cheers, Applause at 9/11 Memorial

Agreed although Bush's expansion of government was done before the mathematical reality set in, brought doubly on by the collapse of the housing market. I'm positive that if Bush took office now he wouldn't dream of doing those costly things. Bush took the war to our enemies in a huge way. Bush DOVE into Afghanistan full-bore when EVERYONE told us we'd get our butts kicked there. Then he opened up a front in Iraq, and drew out our enemies into the light so we could slaughter them by the bushel. Clinton never did that. Heck, Reagan didn't either, but he was fighting the Cold War. Would Gore have done it? No way. Only thing he would have done was air-drop those stupid mercury light bulbs and some recyclable toilet paper (that they don't use) on them as a ransom payment.

One could only hope one day a District Attorney with some ba**s has her arraigned for treason, and a court and jury can find it in their heart to convict her and sentence her accordingly.

Yeah, that's why during Democrat control these insane restrictions flourished, and when the GOP takes over the government the elimination of these restrictions is on the table. This goes against the narrative: Republicans are Theocrats out of the movie "Footloose" who want to ban everything, vs. the reality that conservatives know virtue comes from within, not from a government regulation, and that the entrenched interests and love of Big Government - the playground of Democrats - has kept this apparatus alive.

Big Government : Political Realities Are a Bit Hard for Rep. Maxine Waters to Accept

I'd love to see more Black-Americans part of the Republican Party. How Republicans have written off an entire community is unfortunate to say the least. Never mind it's unfortunate that we have to talk about a "black community" to begin with. I thought we were striving to be color-blind, but it is what it is. Republicans need to be addressing the issues of urban poor and rural poor, regardless of color. Republicans need to show that flat, fair taxes and common sense fiscal policy for all lifts all boats, not just those of the rich. On the point of Barack Obama I've always wondered what the true opinion of the black community is. He really IS NOT one of them. He's half-white, but more importantly, he doesn't come from the long heritage of African-Americans who came over hundreds of years ago in chains. He doesn't seem to have come from adversity. His ancestors didn't have the same lineage as most blacks in this country. He's half-Kenyan! Who's ever met a Kenyan? I would argue that many whites (including Rick Perry) are more "black" than Obama. Some of us whites have come up hard. Some have come up in the Deep South. Obama? He's less Jesse Jackson and more John Kerry.

Big Government : World War II Was Not the Quintessential Keynesian Miracle

Could have distilled this post into something a little simpler: WW2 is not a pertinent example because 1) the nation's economy was dedicated to destruction on a mass scale - not something we would want to mimic; 2) the WW2 economy represented widescale national sacrifice that would not be sustainable as an indefinite condition (e.g. rationing, no auto sales, etc.); 3) the government played a heavy role via price controls, etc. and these would be undermined over time via a burgeoning black market (imagine a black market in an eBay society! Off the hook!). There you go. A moot argument given these three points. Never mind the recovery from the Great Depression really started at the end of the war when a new government unwound all of FDR's nonsense. Alas, everything old is new again...
