Daily Camera.com: : Detours ahead: Ironman Boulder brings road closures - Boulder Daily Camera

Why not just shut down ALL of Boulder County so the CITY can collect its $5M? Please note how many COUNTY roads (and residents) are affected by this self-serving city event. County residents, whenever the city decides to celebrate itself, pay the price with closures, delays, trash and trespassers but realize none of the benefits. Give county residents a say in how and when these events will be scheduled.

The usual knee jerks as you so cavalierly put it are every bit the property owners, taxpayers and voters that cyclists are, but those of us in the county have no say in what the fatuous city airheads inflict upon us. We couch potatoes are picking up not only roadside beer cans and vodka bottles, but water bottles and gel paks of passing cyclists, particularly after large scale cycling events inflicted on our roads. Few rural residents have time for cycling since we are engaged in the real work of farming on our properties.

Tacky, along with the land grabs made possible under the Boulder Comprehensive Plan and Northern Trail Study Area. The Boulder Cyclist Reich has already occupied lanes of busy roads in the city, and will likewise annex lanes of roads vital to county residents (63rd Street). Boulder County residents, please note, have no voice on the city's decisions. Using the flood as an excuse to steal and destroy private property in the name of cyclist jihad is unconscionable. Boulder city residents, please vote out the cycling-philiac city council.

Biggest land headache in Boulder County since the "Edie's Path" adverse possession case that made national news and changed state law a few years back. I hope this dispute can be settled amicably and the church can get some parking restored without the costs, financial and otherwise, that "Edie's Path" ultimately entailed.

Re: Chrstian journalists. Not sure how this caller defines "Christian," which can be anything from Roman Catholic to mainline Protestant to Coptic to Westboro Baptist Church. Just a few years back, the Times Call read like a conservative evangelical newsletter by headlining "news" about the LifeBridge community and the "Heavenfest" event while editorializing against same sex marriage. The TC's culture appears to have shifted along with that of the city itself. A hearty hooray for that.

The cost of closing a lane either way is less about taxes and much more about about the congestion that already exists on these busy roads. Closing lanes will only exacerbate congestion, especially at rush hour, and perhaps put cyclists in greater danger than they are currently. Drivers have enough challenge already in navigating roads safely with existing bicycle traffic, let's not make a bad situation worse by crowding more cars into less space. Drop the the lane-closure nonsense now.

Daily Camera.com: : Boulder\'s lane-repurposing pilot not a concern for first responders - Boulder Daily Camera

Let the voters of Boulder County decide this. 63rd at Gunbarrel is a fast, dangerous road at the best of times, and it's barely within city jurisdiction. It 's bad enough already that in summer every road every weekend is clogged with unwanted "cycling events" over which affected residents have no say. Now motorists will lose much needed lanes on busy roads, creating an unnecessary hazard to cyclists and doubtless slowing traffic. This is the worst idea to come from the out-of-touch city known for crackpot, airhead ideas that impact the rest of us.

Hilarious hypocrisy given the "sprawl" of Meadow Muffin and related Beigevilles still mushrooming between Airport Rd. and 75th St. Indeed, 75th marks the western Demilitarized Zone between Boulder County Open Space and voracious Longmont development greed. Thankful that something stops the seemingly endless proliferation of Caucasian cookie-cutter brooder colonies along a once-peaceful rural corridor.
