Longmont Times-Call : Erie says goodbye to \'Super IGA\' - Longmont Times-Call

Look beneath the surface of what is said by city officials. They often camouflage what's really behind a decision and pick the most broadly accepted explanation. Certain members of Longmont's City Council are notorious in this regard. No one should accept that Erie's action was "out of the blue." Hostility to Boulder County is nothing new. More recent ideological drifts to the hard right suggest behind the scenes joint efforts to reduce Boulder County influence. Erie, Lafayette, Longmont residents especiallly, look deeper. Demand an early council agenda item. Make information requests of your city staffs. Do Open Records Requests of council member emails. And expect that developers of all varieties have already had private input into this issue.

Longmont Times-Call : Gov. Hickenlooper backs cap on zone tax breaks for firms - Longmont Times-Call

"A review by The Denver Post of enterprise-zone tax credits given from 2004 through 2010 showed that 21 companies sought tax credits of more than $1 million in a given year on 44 occasions. All but three of the companies were in the business of refining, transporting, drilling or mining oil, gas or coal, The Post's review found.",,, "The legislation includes a provision that allows an appeal for large projects to the state's economic-development commission seeking a waiver of the $1 million cap on enterprise-zone tax credits that a company can claim annually." A loophole wide enough to drive a horizontal frack through. Show some real courage and exclude oil and gas from ALL tax breaks/credits. They don't need them; they greed them.

Longmont Times-Call : Court should OK cameras, more access - Longmont Times-Call

I have mixed thoughts about broadcasting trials of fact. The issue isn't what the press does. On high-profile cases the press is present whether or not the trial is broadcast. The issue is more likely to be the lawyers and judge altering their behavior or rulings because of a television audience. The O. J. Simpson trial is a case in point. However, I do think that appellate and Supreme Court (state and national) proceedings should be televised on a public access channel that is not dependent on cable or satellite. It is important for the public to understand how matters of law are interpreted and decided.

Brian Bagley is correct. COGCC is suing to protect its POWER. Any regulation that deviated even one iota from the COGCC position would have brought a lawsuit. Don't think for a minute that the oil and gas industry isn't in on this behind the scenes. The COGCC is a puppet of the industry.

Longmont Times-Call : Hank Brown will speak at NISP rally Tuesday in Fort Lupton - Longmont Times-Call

NISP will facilitate two things: it will promote urban sprawl in southwest Weld County and it will provide additional precious water resources for fracking. Source: Save the Poudre Press Release On Friday, July 20, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers informed Save The Poudre that the next draft of the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Northern Integrated Supply Project (NISP) and its Glade Reservoir would not be released to the public for at least another year -- "Fall of 2013." The information came in a letter from the Corps that was written to Governor Hickenlooper. The letter cites "concerns regarding cumulative impacts to the Cache la Poudre River." The letter goes on to say, "The size of the proposals, types of analysis, and the amount of interest they have generated has resulted in substantial reviews." "This is great news for the Poudre River," said Gary Wockner, Director of Save The Poudre. "This river-destroying scheme has now been delayed for 5 years with no end in sight." Save the Poudre has been relentlessly bird-dogging NISP. Over the last 18 months, Save the Poudre has sent the Corp 17 letters, reports, and documents demonstrating the need for more analysis in the NISP EIS, some of that specifically regarding cumulative impacts of NISP with other proposed projects in the basin. While the next draft of the EIS may be released in the Fall of 2013, NISP has a vast array of hurdles to jump after that. For example: 1. The next draft of the EIS (called the "Supplement Draft" EIS) allows for another public comment period. 2. After that public comment period, the Corps must again consider those comments and re-analyze any significant concerns. 3. After that analysis, the Corps will release a "Final" EIS, which also allows for yet another public comment period and re-analysis of significant concerns. 4. Then NISP must apply for and receive several additional state and federal permits, which may have significant analysis involved, including from the State of Colorado Water Quality Control Division and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. 5. Assuming all of those hurdles can be jumped, the Corps will then issue a "Record of Decision" (ROD). 6. After the ROD is released, then anyone can formally challenge the project in court, which could take years to resolve.

Perfectly stated TTH12. Those who are bothered by the concept of separation of church and state are bothered because they WANT church IN state -- their particular brand of church and dogma. In the process of seeking to achieve this they have turned, with the help of linguistic gurus and others, the definition and intent of freedom of religion inside out and upside down. I applaud these two gentlemen for taking up the mantra -- particularly in Longmont where there are those who support church IN state.

The city did not LOSE the lawsuits; they SETTLED them when the balance of power on the city council shifted. BIG difference. Read the following to see how the Baum council rewarded their political bedfellows for their assistance in gaining control of Longmont City Council. In settling with Firestone, they enabled their benefactors (the elders of LifeBridge Church) to annex to a municipality in order to gain access to water. Without water there would never be a LifeBridge "Union" development. http://www.freerangelongmont.com/2010/08/20/perpe...
