If you get the "Elements Of Harmony" MLP guidebook, they list some of the Wonderbolts (Page 34)

"Other team members include Blaze, Fire Streak, Fleetfoot, High Winds, Lightning Streak, Misty Fly, Rapidfire, Silver Lining, Surprise, and Wave Chill."

And there is a Wonderbolt in the toon that looks just like Surprise...So I'm guessing it's her.

In my head cannon, Spike is more a 'son' to her, and they probably couldn't show her as a teenager with a kid of her own on the Hub, so a dog was the nearest thing, considering how many of us treat our dogs and cats like kids nowadays.
