Why does your side keep portraying Bush like he was a real conservative? During his time in office he passed No child left behind, Medicare part D, TARP, outlawed flouresent lightbulbs therby making us use those crappy ecofriendly ones instead, and racked quite a bit of debt himself. So what if he lowered taxes? He ignored most of the rest of the conservative equation for most of his presidency and and as far as I'm concerned was more liberal than Bill Clinton for heaven's sake!

Even if a balanced budget isn't all that it is craked up to be, it is still definately a step in the right direction. Aside from that, we just need a strong majority in the senate and a real conservative in the White House to make some real spending cuts. At any rate, I pray that our country will be able to hold together in the mean time until the other big spenders in Washington get told to not let the door hit them on the way out in 2012.

Please don't misunderstand me. I love helping the poor, and I donate fast offerings to my church for the poor whenever I can, but there's a difference between helping the helpless and helping the clueless. It's a fact that as of right now more people are on welfare in our country than there ever has been. Granted we're in a recession, but many of these people would still rely on food stamps anyway even if they are physically and mentally capable of work. Don't believe me? Go check out southern california some time as an example and work in a fast food restaurant like I have in the past and observe how many people resort to using this kind of aid for such things. Keep in mind also that one of the ten commandments is 'Thou shalt not covet." Though we probably still disagree with one another, I thank you for the conversation. You're a standup guy and I wish you well in the future.

If what you say is true then you have my respect. I say that because I don't know too many people of your kind. Most democrats I know personally bash America frequently through actions like flag burning and I don't know too many people on the right who would do such things, especially tea party supporters. Yes your right there's plenty of hypocritical republicans but we have been quick to encourage them to step down when that happens (at least I have), especially because the media scrutiny is much harsher when it's a republican rather than a democrat. If I were President Obama or Nancy Pelosi, I would've called for his resignation the very day that he admitted to this scandal. Also, I did not say Christianity is the only religion practiced in America, nor is it the only legitimate one, but it is, however, the most commonly one practiced in our country. Also, many of the constitutional principles are derived from judeo-christian teachings. Most importantly, John Adams once said in substance that "Only a moral people are truly capable of living in a free society. The constitution is wholly inadequate for anyone else."

My idea of self reliance is to be as independent as humanly possible and to only ask for help as a last resort. Have I needed to ask for help before? Absolutely. For example, I'm a college student about a year away from graduating and have had to get some help from my family recently. However, the bulk of my education has been paid for out of my own pocket because I worked hard for a couple years and saved up most of my earnings. When I'm in a financial pickle, however, I have a long list of friends, family, and people from my church that I can turn to for assistance and I've only had to ask a small amount of those people. Only after being denied from all these people would I consider government assistance if necessary and would do so with extreme reluctance. In fact, I would even do my best to pay back the government once I have the money to do so even if it takes me 10 years.

I never said ALL republicans care about family values; I'll even acknowledge that sex scandals occur in both parties. However, the proof lies in the eye of the beholder. How many church attending christians do you know who believe in things like fidelity and morality, as well as values like self reliance (with the exception of looking to God to guide you in your life), hard work, accountability, and love of country and yet are registered democrats? Please, do tell! I would like to meet these people.
