Strangely, I really prefer Georgia peaches. They taste sweeter to me. I lived out west and even worked a harvest once, and to be honest....western slope peaches can't hold a candle to Georgia. Just my two cents.

"How shameful that Longmont did not have a citywide 9/11 ceremony. Was it too expensive? Too much hassle? Have we not sent enough sons and daughters overseas? It seems that Longmont forgot our country this Sunday. Thank God our country hasn't forgotten Longmont."

Actually, the government has forgotten Longmont. They did a long time ago. By allowing parasitic legislation pass, by letting all of our industry be outsourced by greedy corporations, by basically crushing the American dream in the name of Free Enterprise and Capitalism-on-steroids. So...stop bringing 9/11 into everything, it disrespects the memory of the fallen, you trying to create a platform and say "SHAAAAAME"

Congratulations to the quick thinking and acting of our local citizenry! Well done, good job handling the conditions that come with amputated limbs, which are SPECIAL conditions which many people might not think of. good reason to take a first-aid class or a refresher (lord knows its been 15 years since my last one) on first-aid. Hats off to you folks!

This just goes to show you they were doing this as a lark, not actually traveling....very unfortunate. You can take the L from downtown, to 21st & Main, walk up to Walmart on the 287 and stick your thumb out (no FLEX bus on Sun or Labor Day) and get to Ft. Collins within a couple hrs. No need for this. I hope the young lady lives a blessed, happy life from here on out...I know it'll be a long road to get there, but its possible.

Cheers again to the brave and strong-of-heart in this case. Its unfortunate and no time to call out whos to blame. Being young and wanting adventure is nothing we can legislate or control, we can just chalk it up to an accident. Folks did/do/will ride trains, and hopefully the (aging but still active) real freight hoppers out there can deter those not in dire need of this method of travel to NOT to so, or to learn properly about trains (slack action, air brake operation, safe mounting technique, etc) - and even then.....sheesh. This hits close to home coz' I did this for many years, safely, and now I am retired and workin' a good job and raising my son. I feel for these kids and their friends/family and the community around them that had to see this. sad.

This issue is enforcement. Tens of thousands of miles of line. Impossible to enforce. The penalty is pretty harsh in most states. It can be enhanced to disrupting the operation of a train, and depending on where you are busted (I rode freight for 10+ years, albeit safely, and yes, you can do it safely, people do/have done so for 100+ years) it can be federal, as trackage goes through a lot of federal land/military as well.

The key is being careful, or, if you don't NEED to ride, just don't. In this case, these were younger hipster kids (that constantly ask me to show them how to ride, and I decline as always) that romanticize riding trains. I've seen it. Over and over. There is no cure/prevention for being young and restless...

I'll be honest, I ran into these folks on saturday night, and I remember being their age and hopping freight. Its never a good idea to catch on the fly unless you are very athletic and confident. The spot they were at usually has trains running through at 10+mph- and the grade is uneven with warped concrete/ballast...easy to trip. I'm not discussing the legality, etc, just the practical things. Hindsight, right? I remember even telling these ppl to be safe! Damn. Glad that shes alive.

"absolutely despise the ignorance and hypocrisy. "

And herein lies YOUR problem. If you ignore it, it may not go away, but you'll be a much happier person.

But hey, what do I know? I'm just a happy guy. Despise away....

No, you lose. Defending drunk driving (yes, that's what you are doing) is outright STUPID.

Maybe some of the motivations is revenue, but stopping people from being killed is a noble act, no matter the motivation.
