I love Nick of Time. I was lucky enough to get a heart screening last spring at my school. They discovered a previously undiagnosed heart murmur, and though it turned out to be harmless, I would never have known it exists!

Because bus rates would have to be raised $1.50 to cover deficits. Extra $1.50 = $4 per ride = less bus riders = way more traffic and congestion.

If these "services you never use" were cut, 15,000 extra cars would be on the roads everyday. There are over 360,000 Metro rides each day, and 95% of Metro riders have a car. It is a "congestion reduction charge," so it will reduce congestion! I think that's a point we can all agree is good.

Hang on, guys: this is a congestion reduction charge, not a "let's tax only car drivers to pay for something they don't use charge." If Metro didn't find another source of funding (besides current meager sales tax), buses would be cut, and there would be 15,000 EXTRA CARS on the road every single day. No one wants that, am I right? Now, I'll be able to get to my high school. That's important to me. Thousands of UW students and employees will be able to get to school as well. I want to encourage you all to read the FULL agreement reached - it involves more than just the $20 car tab fee. In addition, I know there's a lot of immediate backlash - but if you had turned up to the numerous public hearings and the first vote, you would see there was 96% support for the fee, and for the saving of our buses.

Darn, I guess I shouldn't go to school then. :-) In all seriousness though (and I'm not going to cyberbully), I understand your argument - few people want to pay for something that doesn't directly benefit them, and that's totally understandable. In this case, however, it can be rightfully argued that a congestion reduction charge would benefit everyone, in that it would keep more cars off the road. If 85 routes are eliminated and 105 are reduced, as would be the case, thousands of additional cars would clog up the streets of Seattle each day. More traffic, more pollution, more frustration. 95% of Metro riders own a car, and there are over 360,000 rides every weekday. Just some food for thought.

It sends a pretty clear message, but there's (in my opinion) more at stake than a $20 fee. Like I said, I testified FOR the CRC, for a number of reasons. So even though we disagree, I'm glad we agree on the importance of making one's voice heard!

Because students like myself, who are under 18, and especially those who cannot drive, would be incredibly affected by bus cuts. We wouldn't have a say, however, should it come to a vote. Also it would cost at least $900,000.

I was at the courthouse for four hours today, and I testified for the CRC. I also attended the Burien hearing. I encourage all of you, regardless of opinion, to come out to the next vote to hear public testimony. You learn a lot. Honestly.
