She must have been lying right next to the shotgun to be able to shoot him as he was pulling his pants up?!? Either that or he got dressed in slow motion!...It sounds a bit dodgy to me.

KATU - Portland, OR : Does religious clothing have a place in the classroom? | KATU.com - Portland, Oregon | Local

Thanks for the link to the article, but I have read it before. Actually I have read quite a few of John's articles. I think to read articles about how a particular country is or has been can present a picture of it, but it is certainly not the whole picture. I think you have to live in a place to get a true feel for what it is really like. You don't get that by reading articles. I certainly was not trying to come across as if England is this perfect country with absolute tolerance and acceptance by the people. I have lived in both America and England and I don’t think either of them is perfect...Far from it actually. My point was that I think what they are doing in schools has had a good impact on the younger generations. The younger generation seems to be much more tolerant and accepting of other races, religions and cultures than the older generations. A lot of the parents at my daughter’s school tend to agree. The parents say that their parents were more tolerant than their grandparents and the parents today believe they are much more tolerant than their parents were and so on. At the end of the day I think it is a good idea for kids for the reasons I stated previously.

I am not afraid of my daughter learning about other cultures and religions. I think it is great! It is teaching her to have respect and tolerance for opinions, beliefs, thoughts, ideas, etc. that are not her own. Not only that but she will have a vast knowledge of the world around her. Comment was too long so I had to split it in three :)

We don’t send our kids to school just to learn the basics. Well at least not over here! I don’t want my daughter to just be book smart. I want her to be knowledgeable in many different areas of life. I don’t agree with the fact that learning about other religions or cultures will confuse kids. When I was in public school in America I learned about other religions and cultures. My teacher was Jewish and we learned about her religion because that was a part of who she was. I did not find it offensive and neither did the parents of the kids in her class. I found it interesting to learn about. Learning about her religion and other religions and cultures did not confuse me about what I believed. However, I might have been confused if my parents were so against me hearing or learning about any other religion other than the one they told me I had to believe in or couldn’t believe in. I personally don’t want to live in a box where my way is the only way that is right. I would rather step out of that box and learn about the world around me.

I don't see a problem with it myself. It seems a lot of people seem to be very intolerant of other religions and cultures. Ignorance breeds intolerance! I am from America but I now live in England. People who immigrate to England respect the culture here, but they don’t abandon their own. The schools over here teach the kids about other religions and other cultures. They have culture week at school to celebrate diversity. Each day they learn about a different country and its religious beliefs and culture. At the end of culture week all the kids are encouraged to dress in a way that represents their culture. The kids really enjoyed it and learned a lot. Also, by doing this it teaches the kids to respect the culture and beliefs of others and also to be proud of and celebrate their own.

So if someone moves to America then they must give up their beliefs and abandon their culture? Why? What are you guys afraid of? I moved to England and I have embraced their culture, but I also continue to celebrate things from my American culture. When I left America I did not sign any papers agreeing to abandon my roots, beliefs or culture to live in England and I should not have been expected to. Knowledge of other people and their beliefs and culture might just bring a bit of tolerance and acceptance.

KATU - Portland, OR : Effort to bring Major League Soccer to Portland clears major hurdle | KATU.com - Portland, Oregon |

I am not really sure I understand the logic behind this one. If this was MLB or NFL then I could see it being a good idea though probably not at the moment given the state of the economy. I don't even know how popular soccer really is in Oregon or America for that matter so maybe I am commenting blind on this one. I know soccer fans are not non-existent, but I am not sure enough are interested in it at any time let alone these times to warrant this type of money. If this was happening in Europe I probably wouldn't give this a second thought given the fact that soccer is huge out here, but Oregon?$?$?

You know what I don't even think you are for real. Your comments are just too much! I think you just like to take the pi$$ to get a rise out of people because you find it amusing. Do you think maybe though some topics should be off limits for getting a rise off people like that of a dead child? I am sure your answer will likely be no! And don't worry I am not trying to censor you as you have already told me how that is not very American of me so I wouldn't dream of it charlieharper.......

KATU - Portland, OR : Did you know you can have a record even if you\'re not convicted? | KATU.com - Portland, Oregon | Ne

From what I have read he was charged and plead guilty for a DUII arrest in 2006 and had to complete a year long diversion program. It sounds as though he has been stopped a couple of other times as well, but not charged. From the news reports he was definitely charged and convicted for one DUII......

I think in this case they are talking about people who have never been prosecuted or convicted of a DUII. They have been arrested on suspicion but that was the end of it. Despite not being prosecuted or convicted it will forever stay on their record! The guy in the story that killed the toddler was charged with a prior DUII and convicted which makes that a completely different situation.

Bottom-line this guy was wrong and shouldn't have been behind the wheel while intoxicated let alone in the country if he is illegal. I am curious though....If he is illegal why wasn't he deported back in 2006 when he received his first DUI? I am not saying he is not illegal I just really don't understand why he is still here!

Look! Quite frankly I don't know if this child would be alive today or not if it wasn't for the drunk being on the road. I was more trying to drive a point home with omom who is adamant that this child would still be alive if not for the "negligence" of the parents. Just maybe the child would still be alive if not for the drunk. I don't know! As I said in another post if he had not been drinking and driving and the child ran out into the street and he didn't see the child then it is likely this would have been a tragic accident for both the driver and mother. No one at fault just a terrible accident. He basically did himself over by drinking and driving and then fleeing.
