The technology has changed even in the few years since I wrote the book, and your point is well taken. Still not true (as of this writing) with smartphones, most still cameras that shoot video, or any camera less cool than the newer Sonys. So the advice to avoid the digital zoom is still MOSTLY good.

Luckily there's not much tech in the book, so I'll only have to fix a few things like this for the second edition....

Thanks, Doug. All the examples are listed here: http://www.stevestockman.com/examples/, but I can see where there's a little more searching involved with the audio version what with no obvious page numbers and all.

My thoughts in this post were mostly about your point #1, Kevin. I'm not a fan of "cold-calling" without first considering who your best prospects might be. It's a huge world out there. Nobody has the time or money to offer their services to everyone. Who you target has a huge impact on your success.

RE: your point #4, I am a huge fan of the money-back guarantee. But that's "money back" as opposed to "produce on spec." There's a huge difference in clear contracting and client level of commitment. It looks like you're suggesting making the video before they agree and pay you, which doesn't seem like a good thing to do to me.

You're right overall, though. There's no substitute for direct client interaction in selling. Thanks for sharing!

It was a two camera shoot. All of these interviews followed the rules in the article- real conversation, with no lines fed to any of the subjects. In general you don't want to ask people who aren't trained actors to repeat themselves-- there's very little hope of it sounding in any way real.

Your preference, Mark. But to develop that preference, you need to play. Don't be intimidated by a mere editing program. Load a video in, and start poking at the program until you figure out what's going on. If you keep a backup copy of the video there's nothing you can break or ruin. It's all just pixels, and you can make more.
