This comment seems to accurately reflect the trajectory of the saturated fat issue ... it is still on the rise and the food industry must respond or face the consequences.

martiniResearch : Palm Oil and the Risk for Cardiovascular Disease

Important news! Certainly good news for the soybean and canola growers in the US and Canada. Plam oil imports have risen exponentially recently as food companies have removed trans and substituted with palm. Is there a research paper published for this study? If so can you post the reference please?

Coasun Inc. : Recipe for CoasunSA 'Kicked-up Canadian Brownies'

These are the best brownies I have EVER tasted! The amazing point is that they contain NO TRANS FAT, and virtually saturated fat compared to the control brownie made with tropical palm fat. Without the heavy, fatty flavor imparted by palm oil the Kicking Horse Coffee comes through clearly to give these treats a truly clean and satisfying taste. These brownies have significantly fewer calories so I will not feel guiltly when I enjoy and extra. Thanks for posting the recipe!

martiniResearch : Emulsion technology reduces fat content

Novel emulsions like this one being pursued by McClements are the basis for next generation margarine and shortening products needed to improve the nutritional content of the foods we consume. We must find solutions to reduce calories and dramatically reduce saturated fat content in foods. McClements work and the work of others in this area is vital in our struggle to reduce the ever increasing burden on our healthcare systems caused by diseases associated with the overweight and obeisity epedemic prevalent around the world. Proprotionally more research seems to be conducted in this area outside of the United States. I suggest that the goverment and food industry take note and invest more in real solutions like those you site. SB
