There were five quality singers on the MJ tribute. Jennifer Nettles was very good, as was Bocelli and Maxwell. As far as the argument that Taylor deserves all the awards because she "sells records," that's not what the Grammys are all about (and never have been). If they were, Britney Spears would have a lot more than one Grammy award. Taylor is a lot like Britney Spears, except that she is a much better songwriter. Other than that difference, they're both extremely limited in their vocal abilities, they're both popular entertainers, they both have a massive appeal to tween and teenage girls. Is that alone enough to warrant every single award at every single award show? For Britney, the answer has been no. The country academy, at least for this past year, seems to think it should be yes. I agree that the vicious mean-spirited insulting remarks are "haters" and are uncalled for. But giving an honest evaluation of the performance, whether it's an A or an F, is fair game. The first two hours of the Grammys were not good last night. The vocals by just about every artist in those first two hours were subpar. Lady Gaga's vocals while she was on the piano were no better than Brooke White, who finished in 6th place on American Idol. Taylor Swift would not have even gotten a golden ticket to the Hollywood round on Idol if she auditioned for the show with that performance last night.
