Thirdly, put yourself in the cop's shoes: if you were chasing a possibly armed suspect in a stabbing, going as fast as you can, and the suspect suddenly slows down or stops (as seen in the video), I would be afraid he may be stopping or slowing in an attempt to stab or hurt me. With that said, criminal justice research has also shown a suspect with a knife can stab a police officer from 21 feet away BEFORE the officer has the chance to draw their firearm and fire. If you were the cop going full force after this stabbing suspect and he suddenly stopped and you didn't have enough room to stop before getting really close to them and giving them the opportunity to potentially brandish a knife before you could draw your firearm, what would you have done to potentially avoid being stabbed and still attempt to apprehend the suspect?

Unfortunatley, these incidents sometimes occur too quickly for cops to consider different courses of action. Unfortunatley, in this tragic accident an innocent citizen was seriously and significantly harmed. My prayers go out to his family.

This entire incident is a tragedy. My prayers and thoughts go out to the victim. While I can understand both standpoints on the incident, I know there can be lessons learned.

I'm trying to understand the incident from the deputy's point of view. First, if you are responding to a stabbing incident and a witness on the street points to a subject whom they call a suspect and THEN that suspect runs.....the cops are going to chase after them. After all, that's their job, and if they hadn't chased the suspect, people would be outraged and the community would be in danger.

Secondly, if a cop is chasing what they believe to be a suspect in a STABBING then they are going to assume for their safety AND that of the community that the suspect may be armed with a knife. If after identifying themselves multiple times, the suspect still does not stop, this would raise their suspicions even more.
