REALLY Shea???

Lets look at some facts shall we!

Denver's traffic scameras were panned on a AUDIT! http://www.thenewspaper.com/news/36/3668.asp

Quote: "Unfortunately, DPD has not demonstrated that the photo radar program has a positive impact on public safety," City Auditor Dennis J. Gallagher wrote. "Because these programs were sold as public safety enhancements but are widely viewed as a cash grab, it undermines public trust to maintain photo enforcement programs that are profitable but whose safety impact has not been conclusively shown. If this situation persists, then the photo enforcement programs should be shut down."

Even over 3 years later the city HAS REFUSED TO EVEN UNDERTAKE ANY OF THE RECOMMENDATIONS! http://watchdog.org/139767/colorado-red-light-cam...

Quote: And the city has not undertaken the recommended studies to increase the effectiveness of the red light cameras or radar equipment, City Auditor Dennis Gallagher told the Senate State Affairs Committee last week http://watchdog.wpengine.netdna-cdn.com/wp-conten....

“To our knowledge, the Denver Police Department still cannot demonstrate that either program has had a tangible impact on improving public safety,” Gallagher told the committee in written testimony.

Than you have RLC that in even Denver are CLEARLY being used more to make money than safety!

Heck EVEN BEING USED TO CITE DRIVERS STOPPING AT RED LIGHTS! http://www.thenewspaper.com/news/36/3687.asp

Of course most RLC tickets tend to be right turn on red, stop lines and split seconds too.

THE "safety" is HIGHLY DUBIOUS! Even one of the DENVER papers called into question ALLOWING the camera vendor to do the "safety report"
http://www.denverpost.com/opinion/ci_19580844

Quote: To say that ACS has a direct financial stake in demonstrating that photo radar enhances public safety should be self-evident. How could such a study possibly be accepted as a dispassionate portrayal of the facts when so much is on the line for those who are conducting it?"

I could continue on how vendors have a habit of SUING to stop public citizen votes too.

But maybe DEMOCRACY is too much to the camera "supporters" who keep claiming this is about "safety" all the while trying to defend "tickets" that over the long haul become increasingly PETTY (as that stop line one above shows).

Heck in some countries the urge to continue churning tickets has resulted in "speeding" tickets on 1 km/h! That is UNDER 1 mph!
http://www.thenewspaper.com/news/32/3266.asp Quote: Vehicle owners have begun to protest after receiving 45 euro (US $58) tickets for driving as little as 61 km/h (38 MPH) in a 60 zone -- just 1 km/h or sixth-tenths of a mile-per-hour over the limit. The camera in question is positioned just a few yards away from a sign that lowers the limit on the road from 90 km/h (56 MPH) to 60, Varese Notizie reported.
http://banthecams.org/index.php/articles/speed-ca...

HECK even when POLICE OFFICERS SPEAK OUT ON THE ABUSES, they themeselves become targets of retalition! http://www.thenewspaper.com/news/41/4193.asp and another http://www.news.com.au/national/victoria/veteran-...

PHOTO ENFORCEMENT IS NOT and WILL NOT LONG TERM EVER BE USED on "safety". THAT IS JUST A SALES PITCH!

Safety is PULLING OVER DANGEROUS DRIVERS! Not sending bills out on ever more petty "offenses".

Time to BAN THE CAMERAS (or at least let the voters decide, would you agree to that Shea????)

In speed scameras case.

how many were with kids in school zone, and HOW MANY WITH NO ONE AROUND! (you see scamera cities have a habit of making "new" school zones as well as extending times of school zones to create more "violations". http://www.banthecams.org/2020-9-school-park-zone...

I love the "we are losing money" comment.

I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't some creative accounting going on to give the illusion of loss of funds.

Maybe assign more "officers" from the police side over to the scamera "expenses" to give the illusion. There is more than one way to book a paper "loss".

(IN fact when towns have REALLY lost money, the scamera tend to go like in Georgia http://www.thenewspaper.com/news/27/2713.asp)

AS for the Less "violations". Realize there is NOT A BREAKDOWN of what Kind of VIOLAIONS.

In RLC case:

1. right turns,
2. stopping on or over the stop line
3. split second mistakes.

Another notable scam is the "rejection" rate scam: http://www.thenewspaper.com/news/31/3173.asp

ONLY when the state is facing a MASS OPPOSITION TO it (like happen in Houston, TX last year), does the goverment finally "get" it.

LET THE CITIZENS VOTE.

Quit hiding behind questionable "legal" "theories" , many developed by people with a finanical motivation in the outcome.

When you see some poster (and I do wonder how many work for the scamera vendors who are posting here, like Bill Kroske did of ATS) claim that voters "shouldn't" be able to decide. THAN everyone in the US has a problem.

The Courts RULED against DEMOCRACY today. NOT upheld it. (the scamera side can keep playing the "don't run lights" astro turf all they like, that is not what this fight is about. It is about voters BEING ABLE TO DECIDE THEMESELVES. THAT IS WHAT THIS FIGHT IS STILL ABOUT.)

When the government feels it can ignore the voters of any state, than it is maybe time for a something more.

When people in Boston didn't like the tea taxes a few hundered years ago, what did they do, they took action.

Maybe it is time to do something like NOT PAY SCAMERA tickets until they let the voters decide the issue.

No doubt many of these intersections were picked for the "violation" potential. (SCAMERA speak for MONEY)

You see folks RLC are a SCAM! Go pull the "violation" survey the vendor did (the vendors need to have violations to be profitable) and you will find most "violations" are technical fouls.

1. Right turns on red.

2. Stopping over the stop line.

3. split second mistakes that longer ambers stop!

(most RLV crashes are plus 5 into red with themes like DUI, fleeing police, not paying attention, etc that a RLC will never stop long term).

In fact over in Redmond, WA (the same town that JUST DENIED DEMOCRACY and refused to let its own voters vote on the RLC issue after submitting a PETITION http://www.thenewspaper.com/news/35/3599.asp), the VAST majority of "violations" were right turns on red! http://www.banthecams.org/Red-Light-Camera-News/r...

I do a lot of posting to bring attention to the fact that RLC are a SCAM!

My thoughts below on another town, Raleigh, NC which just dumped ACS/Xerox (Big corporations dont' invest in this for "feel" good, but ONLY MONEY), show why the RLC are not the panacea the scamera snake oil salesman claim:

RLC are NOT a safety device. Go pull the violation data (OF ANY RLC TOWN) sometime and you will discover that most of the "violations" are split seconds (THAT LONGER AMBERS have been proven to stop in Arnold, MO. http://www.thenewspaper.com/news/35/3596.asp ), stopping over the stop line like East Denver is doing http://www.banthecams.org/Red-Light-Camera-News/e... , and right turns on red.

In the meantime most RLV crashes are PLUS 5 events THAT A RLC WILL NOT STOP IN MANY CASES: DUI, fleeing police, not paying attention, medical mechanical, etc. In fact WITNESS A FAILURE OF A RLC TO PREVENT A DANGEROUS RLR! http://www.banthecams.org/Red-Light-Camera-News/v...

IT IS SO SIIMPLY SCAMERA ASTRO TURF POSTERS!

THE VOTERS have the RIGHT TO DECIDE! NOT THE SCAMERA COMPANY!

Democracy doesn't go out the window just because you have a "contract" with a camera company.

If the voters want a say in how they are TREATED by their govement, than that is the way it needs to be.

The only people "happy" about this are the city council and the scamera company (and employees who are no doubt posting here).

LET THE PEOPLE VOTE! What are you afraid of, another HOUSTON????

(and no doubt there will be more petitions in the future, so don't go thinking scamera side that the average citizen opposed to photo scameras is going away!)

LET THE PEOPLE VOTE!

(Though I do enjoy the Scamera side comments looking for any excuse to deny democracy like the suit comment! Cute.)

RLC are NOT a safety device, they are revenue device. Go pull the "violation" data and you will find most "violations" are technical fouls like right turns on red, and split second violations that longer ambers stop!
