9 to 5 Mac | Apple Intelligence : iSwifter puts Flash videos, apps and games on your iPad (ads, too)

I'm an iPhone & Apple fan, but come on, $199 for replacement or repair insurance from Apple that doesn't even cover loss or theft when the most you would pay with AT&T is $125, and only $5 a month?!....really??

9 to 5 Mac | Apple Intelligence : Pixelmator shows off 2.0 sneak preview

Do you even know what this app is? First of all they made over 1 million dollars in just one months of sales on the Mac App Store. If that doesn't count as "catching on" I don't know what does. It is not a mobile app. Not for iPhone, or iPad. This is a Mac only app. You think $30 is a lot to ask for it? It is now getting pretty close to Photoshop in features which costs hundreds of dollars. I'm a professional graphic designer, and there is only one feature that Pixelmator will be missing for me to fully replace Photoshop with Pixelmator (Layer styles). This is very impressive software at an insanely low price.

I totally agree. TeamViewer is awesome and free (at least it is for personal use) Maybe this Citrix one is free for commercial use? Is that the difference?

9 to 5 Mac | Apple Intelligence : iPhone clocks experiencing time change issues?

My iPad saved me this morning. I had to be at a meeting at nine and had no idea that the time changed today. Wasn't till almost 11 that somebody mentioned the time change and I realized what had happened.

9 to 5 Mac | Apple Intelligence : iPhone 5 part surfaces, shows larger display and thinner bezel?

Not that I believe this is actually going to happen, but making the screen a little bit bigger physically while leaving the resolution at 640x960 would not require any redesign at all by developers. The ppi wouldn't be quite as high, but as long as its the same number of pixels its it would work fine with all existing apps.

9 to 5 Mac | Apple Intelligence : What does a $200 Pay as you go iPhone look like?

As I stated in an earlier comment, for $40 on Virgin I get Unlimited data, 1200 minutes and unlimited texts. (hotspot doesn't cost extra either) Anything comparable to that on a contract based phone runs over $100 a month. Just 1,200 min on any regular carrier will cost you more than $40, and on Virgin you get unlimited data to go with it. That $25 a month plan Seth mentions INCLUDES unlimited data… its not an extra charge, which seems to be what you are thinking.

Picked mine up yesterday afternoon. Heres a quick comparison for those who still don't get it. For $50 a month (after taxes) I used to get 450 min, and 300 texts… no data or anything else. ("dumbphone" on Sprint) Now for $40 a month I get 1,200 minutes, unlimited data, unlimited texts… and with a free download from the android market I can use the device as a mobile hotspot with that unlimited data at no extra cost. Lets try to get a similar plan on AT&T… 900 minutes for $60… Data pro plan $25 (2Gig) $20 for unlimited messaging, And $20 for tethering. Thats over $125 and it still doesn't match the $40 Virgin plan feature wise. The phone isn't bad either, like Seth mentioned its got a 600 Mhz processor, but he didn't mention that it also has a 200 Mhz dedicated graphics processor… no iPhone 4, but its comparable to the 3GS spec wise. Couldn't be happier.

9 to 5 Mac | Apple Intelligence : Tablet comparison

"iPad 2 could technically beat all of these other tablets to market, still. Motorola’s Xoom with a later this month release has the best shot at beating it." I agree with your comment, but when Seth said that the Xoom has the best chance of beating it, he was only talking about the Xoom having a chance of making it to market first, not actually "beating it" as an overall tablet.

9 to 5 Mac | Apple Intelligence : Flash 10.2 makes monster improvements in CPU usage

On my iMac it went from about 80% of both cores to about 50% now. Definitely better, but still not out of this world for me. I wouldn't be surprised if they went all out on the MacBook Air optimization as Apple didn't even ship these latest models with Flash preinstalled… and I think Adobe wants to keep that from happening again.

9 to 5 Mac | Apple Intelligence : WSJ on iPad 2: FaceTime, thinner, lighter, faster, 1024 x 768 display

Apple is either going to leave the resolution the same or they will double it, but nowhere in-between - unless they want fuzzy scaled up graphics with current apps or want to force develops to update their graphics on every app for the new resolution. Neither of which are compromises Apple is willing to make. It's going to be at least one more year before we see a retina display iPad, and it makes complete sense that the 2nd gen iPad will maintain the 1024x768 screen.

9 to 5 Mac | Apple Intelligence : Verizon is about to put the squeeze on its top 5 percent of bandwidth hogs (iPhone users)

Yeah, they tested in 5 locations… all in San Francisco, one of the worst cities in the U.S. for AT&T. So yeah, if you live in SF, Verizon is the better choice. Where I live though iPhone users get download speeds 6x faster than the Verizon phone in that video. Its all subjective, and just depends on where you live.

9 to 5 Mac | Apple Intelligence : Oh dang, Motorola just went there with their Super Bowl ad

Um…. are you the one that hasn't seen the ad? These are nothing alike. Motorola's is 60 seconds of some music playing while they show text. Some computer generated images of space moving around to keep it a little more interesting. No acting, no voices, not even anyone reading the text that appears. Now For Apple's 1984 ad… The first 48 seconds don't have any text at all, its all acting and a voiceover. A high quality production directed by Riddly Scott with an unheard of production budget of $900,000… and was 27 years ago. Only in the last 12 seconds does any text appear on screen, and unlike the Motorola ad, the two sentences are read aloud. Sorry, but the only way these two commercials are comparable is the fact that they both used the 1984 idea.

9 to 5 Mac | Apple Intelligence : Analyst on iPad 2: 3 versions, iPod touch cameras, 1024 x 768 display

Yeah, the entry level iPod Touch isn't even half the price of the entry level iPad either though. Don't know about you, but I expect more from a $500 device than a $230 one. With a much bigger screen on the iPad, images taken with that low quality of a camera would look terrible on device. Who knows, that may be what Apple does… but if it has to have a camera on the back, why can't it be the quality of the iPhone 4?
