Big Government : Sunday Open Thread: Brown Edition

That attack was prompted by the burning and looting of Lawrence and the death threats against John Brown's sons and their families. There was no law in Kansas at that time, the pro-slavery forces rigged elections and terrorized the abolitionists. Those people in the cabin who weren't involved in the raids on Lawrence were allowed to go free. I'm not saying he was right, but I think you have to look at all of the facts, not just some of the evidence.

Big Journalism : Dear Harvey Weinstein: I Accept Your Invitation

I had to go to AttackWatch.com to report the following: "www.AttackWatch.com - This website claims that President Obama wants people to snitch on their neighbors whenever they say or write something that is negative about him. This makes President Obama sound like a 3rd world dictator who seeks to punish all dissent."

Big Government : 'Doobie' Brothers Ron and Barney

I've never done any illegal drugs and never will. I don't have a problem with Mexicans or Blacks owning businesses, because I'm not a racist. Any country, including Mexico, could produce pot and compete with the US market, that's how free enterprise works. The more competition, the less money the drug lords will make. Anyone who wants to do drugs is applying a limitation to themselves. Why should I care? It's less competition in the job market and will increase my earning potential. As far as more Obama voters, I think they'll be too busy with the cheap, legal pot to vote for him.

Big Government : 'Doobie' Brothers Ron and Barney

Things that will happen when we legalize Pot... 1) Reduce crime, by taking a portion of the illegal drug market, this will also save lives of our boarder guards and innocent citizens who are killed in gang turf warfare. 2) Reduce the number of hard drug addicts. Marijuana is a gateway drug, because it's harder to acquire than many hard drugs. People who would prefer to just smoke a joint, eventually move on to harder drugs because they are actually cheaper and easier to get. 3) Bring in more tax revenue. 4) Encourage new businesses and expanded existing businesses. The money that would otherwise be going to drug lords would instead be staying within the community. 5) Safer for the users, they don't have to worry if something else has been mixed in the marijuana they just bought. 6) The number of people who drank alcohol took a dramatic spike during prohibition, but quickly took a downturn when prohibition ended. It's very likely we would see the same response among Marijuana smokers. 7) US Farmers would have a new money crop. 8) The cost of Marijuana will drastically reduce, making it unprofitable to smuggle it into the USA, reducing drug traffic down to only the hard drugs, which would be in less demand. 9) This would shrink the size of the DEA a bit. 10) I could go on, but I'll put the most important reason here: The Federal Government doesn't have the freaking authority to tell Americans what they can and cannot buy. That power isn't in the constitution. So I ask you, why would a conservative resist a power shift from the Federal Government back to the States and the people?

You said "In MINE the line has been crossed." What was the line for you? When someone practiced their first amendment rights and said that America sucks? Obama is on his way out, so are the commies and progressives he installed. His support has crumbled down to the base and I think it's going to go lower before November of next year. The line for me is obvious, when the only option remaining is violence, then I'll do what is required. But there are plenty of options until we get to that point. I didn't call names in my last post, I said I think you are a sock puppet. A sock puppet is a fake user who is used to support and defend the actual user. Nothing you've said has changed my mind. As for "Democracy IS democracy-- but one MUST be an active participant", first, we aren't a democracy and thank God for that. Two, we vote. That's how you are an active participant. Not threatening violence against your politial opponents or whatever else you are advocating. We vote, we organize, we inform and we write and call our congressmen, I don't know what else you are advocating, because you aren't being very clear.

See, that's just sad. To be called "child" by a supposed man who makes schoolboy taunts. We are nowhere near far gone enough to have to use force to straighten things out. Regan did it with WORDS, why can't we? That's my point, which was missed because you were so busy coming with the absolutely hilarious name "spiderchild". When action is called for, I'll be the first in line. But until then, I'll use my vote and my voice, they are the weapons our Founding Father's gave us.

I just don't think that "Despite the film’s attempt to morally equate the U.S. and the U.S.S.R" is true. I enjoyed the movie, but I walked out knowing that in the minds of some of those who made the movie, the US Government and soldiers were the bad guys and the USSR government and soldiers were peace-loving. That's not a moral equivalent, it's a moral reversal.

I'm surprised that a BigHollywood reviewer wouldn't pick up on that. The Americans were gung-ho at the idea of starting WWIII, but the Russia were very hesitant and where desperately holding out hope that the whole thing would be called off.

I have a hard time believing that you would have those results if you followed the diets. Say that you put a goal of 30 carbs a day. That's a couple salads and a couple bowls of veggies a day at least. Assuming you are avoiding starchy vegetables and all grains and legumes (other than green beans). Besides, 75% of your serum cholesterol is produced by your liver. If your HDL lipoproteins are high enough, your LDL lipoproteins never get too high. The trick is to get everything working as intended and that means no grains or starchy vegetables. Inuits and the Masai live on a diet almost completely without carbs and very rich in saturated fat and they have none of the health problems like diabetes, obesity and heart disease that is so common in the high carb diet.

Saturated fat has nothing to do with heart attacks, other than preventing them. Your father's heart attack was probably due to a poor diet that included too many lectins, smoking or a low fat diet. Pattern A LDL (the good kind of LDL) are made out of triglycerides. Pattern B LDL (the bad kind of LDL) are exactly like Pattern A, except that your liver didn't have the necessary triglycerides when it made the LDL protein. LDL proteins are made to take cholesterol to damaged parts of your body and put it there to help reduce inflammation and tissue damage. Pattern B LDL are small and dense, so they can penetrate the damaged arterial wall and create a plaque of cholesterol. Pattern A LDL is too large and soft to penetrate the damaged walls of blood vessels and organs, so it properly places the cholesterol, which is vital and necessary for cellular healing and growth. Also, on a completely different subject, your sex hormones are made out of cholesterol. I'm not going to go into details, but guys, it's like I'm 16 again and I'm fast approaching 40. In my non-formal study, I feel that I can say it has a similar effect on women too.

I feel great, I lose weight and I can eat all the "fatty" foods that are so "bad" for you, like fried eggs, bacon, cheeseburgers and steak.

So you are saying that her income is based on this case being REJECTED by the court, right? If they find ObamaCare unconstitutional, she would lose her new source of income. You are obviously afraid that Justice Thomas will find ObamaCare unconstitutional, which means you are afraid he will ignore his wife's source of income and rule against her interests. Once Obamacare is gone, she loses her job. Until then, she can continue to campaign and work with this group to have ObamaCare overturned on some other basis.

None of it makes sense to me, unless O'Keefe (and possible Breitbart) aren't being honest. Maybe the sting was to show that CNN would run with a demonstrably false story? Maybe this IS the story they were going for? Give CNN the original script, while it is clear that the Original script wasn't being used and see if they run with it. They did, giving O'Keefe a chance to show that the MSM only hears the worst and will print a demonstrably false story, so long as it hurts a conservative.

No, wrong. The New York Times is dying, if attacking conservatives brought in readers, they would be swimming in cash. The building would be gold plated by now. No, they attack Sarah Palin, because they can't believe that they are wrong and that their readership is dying because of their partisanship.
First you said: "We should support the president, that is our duty" and then you said: "Bush was slammed by the majority. Change was needed, that is what we have. So do you want more of the Bush administration? Or worse yet, McCain.........." You aren't too bright, are you? If it's your "duty" to support the president, then you are guilty of dereliction of duty in regards to President GW Bush. Why is it that all of you lefties claim to be for freedom, when you support Authoritarian ideas? The President's duty is to serve the people, not for the people to serve the president. He is our representative, not our king.
