KOMO - Seattle, WA : What to do with those unused, illegal fireworks | | Beacon Hill News

I'll be glad when the only fireworks available are the ones sold legally & the only time they are used is on the 4th of July, not the 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 5th & 6th, etc. The number of injuries will decrease and the number of pet tranqualizer prescriptions will go down too. Celebrate the 4th safely but don't turn it into the "12 Days of Fireworks". The symbolism of fireworks should stay symbolic & not become an excuse for the careless & almost ceaseless lighting of fireworks.

The key thing however is the absence of the word 'OWNER' anywhere in the article. If the driver was also the owner, don't you imagine that would have been mentioned?

Yeah, you can't hold anyone's license and only an idiot would give you theirs. The main thing is to confirm the driver is insured before handing them a key and have a waiver form for them to sign just like the dealers do. Amateur sellers will get amateur results!

Not sure how you decided the owner will be paying. Insurance follows the driver. If the owner can be proven negligent, then the driver's insurance co. will go after the owner. At least that's the way I understand it:)

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Woman gets year in jail for helping trooper\'s killer | Local & Regional | Seattle News, Weather, Sp

The judge stands convicted of leniency here. Her statements at sentencing makes the case for the 2 year exceptional sentence. This convict does NOT deserve leniency but the opposite. She most like would do the same thing all over again if given the chance. It appears she has really not changed her attitude or her morals.

What a callous response to this unfortunate event. Maybe you have not had a family member or close friend give up on life and place themselves in harm's way. Most who try to end their life and fail later are glad they survived. Depression is a real thing that causes irrational actions. If you can't say something compassionate about news like this, maybe you should pass up the compulsion to voice your opinion.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Officials: Al-Qaida bomber was CIA informant | National & World News | Seattle News, Weather, Sports

When AP broke this story on Mon., it was immediately obvious the only way the CIA could have gotten their hands on this device was thru a 'plant' who was accepted into the ranks of Al Qaeda. The significant thing here is we now have a prototype to study and then devise a way to detect future device such as this. As for messing with thier heads and creating a climate of fear & suspicion among their ranks, they have already been dealing with that. They will keep trying to hit us in some way, somewhere, somehow. The wars in Iraq & Afghanistan seem to have not dampened their desire to bring down Western culture. We are finally fighting this asymmetrical war with smarter means than full-scale armies!

I work with those in recovery from drug & alcohol abuse so I made my comment from an educated point of view. Sorry you don't like my emphasis on our violent culture, but I'm not the only one who thinks we have become way to reactive as a society. So what is your solution to the increase in violence and murder?

Another week, another murder in Lacey. This has become all too familiar. After living here for 35 years, it seems the level of voilence is increasing. I blame it on the hair-trigger emotional edge many are living on today. It really doesn't take much any more to push some over the edge to commit murder. We need to face the fact that anger is a huge problem before can even hope to make any progess in curbing violence. We can no longer afford to be emotionally careless and just react with over-the-top rage. The issue of drugs and weapons are not at the root. They just add another deadly element to the mix.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Boy dies after collision with Vancouver, Wash., city bus | Local & Regional | Seattle News, Weather,

The majority of posters on this new story seem to be the kind who would turn the other cheek if a similar thing happened to a member of their own family. That's very noble of you to predict how you'd respond in a similar situation. But I say most would change their tune in a heartbeat if their kid was killed by a city bus. Nowhere does it say the parnets had hired an attorney to sue the transit company. I'm sure they will wait to see what the investigation turns up and then decide the appropriate course to take. It is only natural to think about how this will forever affect their lives. If compensation is due, they will need a good lawyer to make sure the insurance company doesn't shaft them, which is the goal of for-profit insurance companies, in case you hadn't noticed. Trusting in the expected 'goodwill' of any institution to do the right thing today is misplaced trust. I just hope none of us posting here ever face what this family has and will continue to for the rest of their lives.

A smart person pulls over when conditions are unsafe to proceed or they are not confident they can drive safely. Find a spot to pull off , put on your emergency flashers and wait to see if conditions improve. If not, proceed cautiously. I know a family who lost a son to a careless/impaired/distracted driver. No one ever came forward to admit the crime. It's been over 15 years and not a day goes by they don't think about Marcus! It's not worth it to risk a life just to get to your destination on time!

Just looking at the facts, EllensburgBlue! He will get a fair trial if he doesn't plead out before hand. It now is being reported he had a BAC of 0.16, twice the state legal limit. That will be the damning evidence in his trial. And nothing's been reported regarding any prior DWI's or DUI's. Suspect this is not his first. Anyway, as a reminder, EB, this is an OPINION comment section, not a court room, so any opinion is valid. You may not like my opinion but that's part of the give & take here.

How does this home invasion have anything to do with UC Berkeley exactly? It is more likely motivated by illegal drug use. And if weapons & law enforcement were the best solution, then the drug wars would be over by now. Please be careful to not overly simplify the causes of crime. And don't put all your hopes in increased gun ownership to solve our crime problems.

Scott: so sorry to hear about Gabby's condition. I knew a family who was severely affected by a child with uncontrollable seizures. The medication controlled the seizures but devasted the child. Thanks for informing us of the magnitude of the issue. Hope awareness increases and money becomes more available for research!

No law that is well crafted and aimed at protecting children from the carelesness of adults who carry weapons should be called idiotic. It should be obvious, even to NRA memebers, that changes need to be made.
