Actually, you can downgrade the baseband on certain iphone 3G. Download fuzzyband from cydia and if your bootloader is version 05.08 then you are in luck. You can downgrade your baseband. Check google or iclarified for tutorials

Error 1015 means that you are trying to downgrade your baseband. itunes will not let you restore as you have the ipad baseband. You will have to cook a custom FW using a mac to restore

Hey people.. Looking for a hand with a unique problem (or so i think, anyway). Read through pages and pages of posts, but haven't seen a problem like mine.! I have an iphone 3G with FW 4.1, and BB 06.15, which is JB and unlocked. I had the battery drainage problem, which i fixed using SAM. It has worked fine for over 2 weeks, only needing charged once a day (and there is normally still around 30% charge still free). However, over the past 2 days, the phone has not moved from 100% charge, even tho i use it constantly for apps and music. Has anyone else had this problem.? I am scared to charge it, incase i do damage, but i am also scared that the battery icon is not working. Help

I updated from 4.1 to 4.2.1 and updated BB to 06.15... Everyting works fine, GPS, cydia, MMS, Itunes sync... everything.! Its a chance you take.... With the iphone 3G, some of them can have their BB downgraded if anything goes wrong. This only works with the 3G tho

Bad luck my friend, you cannot offically go to 4.2.1 again because you have upgraded to 06.15.00.. Only option is to restore to 4.1 and JB and unlock. Although it will say in your setttings FW 4.1, it unoffically has 4.2.1, but this wont show on the phone. So technically your not lying to the customer. Point them in the direction of this site to prove it. You will have to explain that they will not be able to update any software until apple release software that has a higher BB than 06.15.00.

Itunes wont recognise the upgrade because of the BB Can I ask a question.? If your on 4.1, and have jailbroke and unlocked, why do you need to upgrade to 4.2.1.? Tiny Umbrella won't kick the phone out of recovery, it doesn't recognise anything after 4.1 because of BB. If you have unlocked after restoring to 4.1, then you will have used custom 4.2.1. this means your phone will already have it installed. But it will still show FW 4.1 when you go into settings.

Keep Tiny unmbrella open while your doing restore, after error message "1015" on itunes, switch to Tiny umbrella and click exit recovery... This should do the trick, worked for me only last week. You maybe have to click "stop TSS Server" before exit recovery, but try exit recovery first.

Have you saved your SHSH blobs using tiny umbrella.? If not you will have to use a MAC to make some custom firmware. If you have saved them, resore to FW 4.1 using tiny umbrella, you will still get the error 1015, but after it, click on exit recovery on TU. Hope this makes sense.

You wont be able to restore using itunes, because your BB is 06.15.00 Itunes will stop restoring near the end and give error message "1015"... This means it cannot downgrade the BB. Try using custom firmware 4.2.1...

do a search on google for a custom FW 3.1 ipsw, download it and save it to your desktop. after that there should be another zip file called redsn0w, which goes with the FW, download and save to desktop. run redsn0w, it'll ask for an ipsw, select the one you have downloaded and follow the instructions. this will jailbreak your phone. after this, there will be an app called cydia. open up an search for ultrasn0w, install... after that enjoy as your phone will be jailbroke and unlocked.
