It is near impossible to commit an adult who will not go voluntarily. To say otherwise makes me suspect you have had the good fortune of never seeing an attempt first hand in your family. Beyond that, finances are an issue. Mental health resources are not well funded publicly. Those that are in the system typically only are after the occurrence of a true 'emergency'. Often legitimate suicide attempts are not deemed as enough of an emergency to give someone help. Before blaming the parents for something, consider if there was even an environment they could act in.

Refer to the National Alliance for Mental Health's report for reference. You can drill down by state. The full narratives provide additional insight. Oregon has many of the same failures as Arizona in these areas. http://www.nami.org/gtsTemplate09.cfm?Section=Gra...

There was a popular remake in the 90s. Many people know the song - the question is who do they think sang it!

Measure 3 amended Articles 19 and 20 of Article II of the Oregon Constitution to limit the terms of state legislators to six years in the house, eight in the senate, and twelve-year combined lifetime total, and similarly restrict Oregon's representatives in the U.S. Congress and Senate to six and twelve years respectively.

The initiative also placed a limit of two terms (eight years) on the statewide elective offices of Governor, Secretary of State, Treasurer, Superintendent of Public Instruction, and Labor Commissioner, as well as making various modifications, either explicitly or implicitly, to other sections of the state Constitution relating to qualifications of voters and candidates for office.

The majority of users I know are very productive members of society. I personally know lawyers, doctors, educators, business executives, fitness trainers, law enforcement folks, and more who use marijuana. And none of these people fit the common stereotype of "potheads". It's everywhere & in all walks of life.

I was going my KATU & the non-KATU sources I found online after searching. I even posted a story with additional details. I do not know everything about everything, but I still feel this is wrong based on the information i do know. If you link to the 'much more' you claim to know about it I am open to read it.

I am still opposed to tax dollars and government resources spent on this. Even if the 'much more' revealed details that the boy was in danger if he was returned to his mother then DHS could have contacted the Canadian government to have his transfered to their version of DHS. Instead they made this non-citizen our burden.

And my TD was not out of emotion, it was out of my analysis of what is written. Emotion would have been if I TD for a typo or run on sentence.

I did research & still do not feel the state was justified to prevent Noah's return to his birth mother in their home country. Link to the background under my other response to you.
Would you advocate DHS putting every child in foster care if their parent was found to have a marijuana arrest years prior in another country?
Agree there is more to this story, but Oregon state employee resources are misplaced in this case.
